My next pistol will either be a FDE p-09 or a sp-01 tactical.

Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

After seeing this, I'm even more confused as to which will be my next purchase: SP-01, P-09 or Grand Power K100 (mk12)

After seeing this, I'm even more confused as to which will be my next purchase: SP-01, P-09...

A gross over-simplification would be...
The P09 is a polymer receiver, basically intended to reduce weight for those who carry for a living. Comfortable to shoot because of the full-size, but still a reduced-weight pistol.

The SP01 is an all metal gun making it more comfortable for those who may shoot for a living, e.g. a competition gun. In competition the added weight helps control recoil. And since the gun comes off when the competition is over, carry weight is not a primary issue.

That doesn't mean that SOME people might need to reverse the rolls.

At least that's my take.  ;)

The P09 doesn't seem to recoil as much as you'd think.  At least in 9MM.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

For me the P-09 is on the heavy side for a CCW, also long in the grip, but I know people that do carry and really like the P-09. It's definitely service or duty worthy.

My experience is the same. I bought a Phantom because I like my SP-01 SO much, however, it has a notably more snappy recoil so I recently sold it and purchased back my P-09 that I sold 1-2 years ago. I am going to the range this weekend to shoot my trusty P-09 again, enjoy its lower recoil again AND initiate the P-09 Kadet Kit I just received for it 😀. I will let you know how things go!

Thanks for this entry. I more or less figured the P09 shot smoother than the Phantom. This helps confirm this.

For those on the fence about the P09 being a bit big for CC, there is the P07.  Same guts, same design, just a touch smaller.  I really liked my first one enough to buy a second (but suppressor ready, for my step into that adventure.j.

Simply amazing! When I bought my P09 to replace my G17 as home defense gun, and with less than 100 shots my extractor broke, I was devastated. (I posted that in the forum and you guys calmed me down saying it was just 1 in a million that it happened) But as I see this post and the beating that P09 has had....I just cant stop loving it. BTW...after changing the extractor I put 500 rounds thru it with zero issues!!!

Nobody ever said CCW was supposed to be comfortable. Carry what you shoot the best.

500 rounds is def not enough to test any pistol.... but do not worry, I put tens of thousands through mine without the extractor braking.

The phantom is not snappy at all compared to my P09, Po7, spo1 or my steel compact.  What is a little snappy is my Cz 75 9mm PCR.

Wow, a four-year-old thread Revisited !!
with all the information that's out there now about the P-09 there shouldn't be any question about function or durability.
