Hey all,
First let me say that I absolutely love my new P-07. Its my first hammer gun and so far im loving it. Right now I only have two complaints:
1. The break is not at all what I expected. There isnt a definable wall and it feels very mushy. But I already have a hammer coming from CGW to fix that. No biggie.
Its the second issue that killing me, however minor it may seem
2. No matter what size backstrap I put on, I hear and feel the plastic "creaking" any and every time I pick up the gun. Its driving me crazy. Its not like I feel the polymer compressing, but I do feel it...settling? Again its a very very minor movement but I do feel it. Does anyone else have this issue? Ive never experience anything like this and have held just about every polymer gun there is
Its brand new from 2018, only about 300 rounds through it so far. But I have some Talon grips coming and am reluctant to put them on with this happening. What worries me is that it happens with any backstrap, meaning its probably a tolerance issue with the frame itself. Short of putting some loctite on there (which I really dont want to do) does anyone have a suggestions?
Thanks guys
EDIT: It is most definitely the backstraps mating with the frame that is causing the plastic creaking. Without the backstraps on I can grip the gun as hard as I like and...nothing. Same as the rest of my guns. Take the backstraps off on push them against a hard surface - nothing. But put a backstrap on the frame and it starts happening again. The closest thing I can liken it to is when you step on an old floor board - but with a more "plastic" sound. You know how you can feel the floorboard slightly give under your foot when it creaks - same issue here. Happens 90% of the time I grip the gun.
I'm going to try putting a shim underneath it and see if that helps. Does anyone have any other recommendations though? Obviously the best solution would be Loctite. But I dont want something so permanent. Is there a temporary sealant I could put on there and have the peace of mind that it could come off later - that would be ideal.
Nobody else notices this with their P-07?
Thanks gents

I am not sure about the back strap moment you are describing, some kind of shim comes to my mind as a possible fix, like a really thin plastic sheet from a binder. For the squeaking i would assume that a bit of oil of gun lube would take care of it.
While you have the pistol apart to install the new hammer some part polishing may be worth while. Here is a link to a guide on the subject. I just did this to my P-09 with noticeable results.

Here is a link to a great video on CZ P-Series hammer kit installation as well. I use this video every time i take mine apart.

I am interested to hear other forum members input on your questions.

Thanks for the video and links! This really is a great community :). I'm just sure not sure if I have the necessary tools/trust in my abilities to do anything more than the hammer, lol. But thats a discussion for another day. Unfortunately, I have such a personality that I fixate on certain things and right now the plastic squeak is dead center of my mental crosshair.
I'm almost positive its the backstrap if at this point. I took some guerrilla tape and wrapped it as tight as I possibly could and, although it didnt go away completely, it got quieter and less noticeable. I actually thought of the shim idea too (didnt think of the binder sheet tho - great idea!) but I have a feeling that its probably not going to eliminate it entirely. Definitely worth a try though.
But i'm also curious if any other members have this issue. I tested all my other poly guns (including a P-10C) and couldnt get them to make the slightest noise or feel any 'shift'. Its just not a good feeling to feel/hear that movement anytime I bring up the gun - however small it may be.

Good info tok36. While my P-07 has taken a bit of a back seat since I bought a PCR and a P-01. But I saved the thread on tune ups so I can find it easy and downloaded the video. At some point I will be working on it and you saved me from searching for info I will be looking for.
Thanks !!!

So, you're saying that the backstrap is loose and has noticeable movement when installed?
-
I wouldn't say it's 'loose'. It's not like I can wiggle it around or anything. It's really hard to describe without seeing it. I guess the best way would be to say that the tolerance feels likes it's off by a fraction of an inch.
Because of this, when I grabbed the gun it feels like a very slightly "click" and I heard the rubber squeak as it settles into the correct* position. Again it's a very minor movement but it is noricable
-
Maybe pull the backstrap completely off, then see if the squeak is still there. That?ll rule out/in the back trap for sure.
Then check both the backstrap and the frame for any small hint of plastic that may be hindering an exact fit.
Sorry, only thing I can think of.

Is your issue possibly related to something done in this thread?

Very doubtful. I just didnt realize how poorly designed the 'flat' MS plug was and couldnt figure out why I was having such a hard time getting it in when others made it look so easy (they had the lanyard). But nothing I did would have damaged the frame or backstrap in anyway.

I like/use the lanyard loop. If I fall off the kayak I'll still have the P07.
You wouldn't believe how many people (here and other forums) replace the lanyard loop with the flat spring cup because they say the lanyard loop hurts their hand when seating a magazine.
Then again, the lanyard loops on the P07/P09 are plastic. Be aware that when you push upwards on the lanyard loop with something hard the lanyard loop may collapse. Mine did on my P07. I used a pick to "round" it back out. I wouldn't make a habit out of changing on backstraps, hammer springs, etc. Put what you want it in and shoot it.

The backstraps wont be changed once the Talon grip goes on. Im just trying to figure out which I prefer before then. But nothing will be going on until I get this 'issue' resolved.

I?d try plumbers tape or a fluoride lubricant. Or white grease.
-
I would remove the retaining pin and slide the back strap on and off a couple dozen times. Maybe it will wear in the mating surfaces and let it seat a little better.
The other thing I'd try is find some wax like a clear crayon that comes with the old Easter egg coloring kits or some clear parafin. Rub it well on all the mating surfaces between the backstrap and grip. That should quiet the squeak.

I've already tried repeatedly taking them on and off again to no avail. However your 2nd suggestion is genius. I wonder if this would be a permanent fix or if it'll start to come back after a while? Id like to have a permanent fix before I put the Talon grip on. I'm not the most creative though so my brain just keeps looping back to glue lol. Suggestions like yours are why I love this forum! Wish there were more like it

Follow the joemustang99 videos for disassembly reassembly with those videos a five-year-old could do it.

Take off the back strap, put a little bit of lube where the back strap slides in and try that.
It seems you're concentrating more on the squeek rather than which backstrap allows you to shoot better.

Already tried lining the sh#t out of it with CLP and when that did work, just hoppes lubricant. No different. I know it's somewhat irrational but you're right, I just can't focus on anything else because every single time I bring the gun up I hear it creak and ever so slightly move. A normally person wouldn't notice the movement and it has zero effect on the gun whatsoever. It just drives me crazy. Especially because no one else seems to have the issue and I don't see anyway to fix it short of glueing or loctite-ing it which I really don't want to do. I have a talon grip and CGW kit coming tomorrow and in reluctant to put either on :(

If you really feel your gun has an issue give CZ-USA a call and let them evaluate it. It is under warranty.

Which one (backstrap) did you settle on? Remove it, set it aside.
Take one of the ones you won't be using. See the four wider spots at the top/bottom on each side? Use a heated screw driver blade to make a small flattened area towards the trailing end of each rail. Not the end that first slides into the grooves in the frame. You want the leading edges to be in good/original condition so it inserts smoothly as you slide it into position. The very slightly flattened lower corners of each of the four wider edges should lock it into the frame rails tighter.
Try it on one of the unused inserts to see if it works and you want to try it on the insert you use in the pistol frame. Let me say again, it shouldn't take much deformation of those small rails and just a small section of each rail. Go to far and getting the insert into place may be impossible. Good luck.
Did something similar years ago to the plastic pins in my Ruger 10/22. They were loose enough (the two that hold the trigger group in the receiver) that they would start to work out as you fired the rifle. No issues since.
People do it on loose fitting metal parts, too. Not with a hot screw driver blade, but with a hammer and punch. I had to make little dimple marks in the rear sight dovetail on my wife's first CZ75 Compact. The rear sight was extremely difficult to get out and then the replacement sight was a very sloppy fit. I used a punch/hammer to dimple up the metal in the bottom of the dovetail and then got a good tight fit when pushing the new rear sight into place.

My P07 creaks sometimes but it doesn?t bother me at all. I mean I really have to pay attention to it to notice it.
I don?t notice if I?m dry firing and definitely can?t hear it at the range.
The backstrap that was on it out the box is perfect for me. I didn?t bother with others they?re still in the case.
I?m so happy with the they way the P07 feels in my hand I don?t want to mess with it.
