Title: 7.62x39 cz 527
Post by: todd on November 19, 2018, 04:35:30 PM
i am a first timer on your website, so i guess i'll say hi!

i've been looking at a cz 527 in 7.62x39. i have alot on my plate, i'll buy it late summer/early fall. oh, i have had a stroke that left me with 20% right arm/leg good. i'm glad that i type, my speech is horrendous ;D.  i want the cz because someday i won't shoot my big bore rifles. and basically its because "i have too!!!!" ;). the cz will be for whitetail with a little thrown in for "target" shooting(cans, bottles, steel plates....).  my shots on deer are 50 yards and less(close cover), but i'll take a "long" shot at 150 yards. a 2-7x leopold is all i need to do that. i reload, so my brass will be starline and i'll be reloading on lee dies.

i like cast boolits. i like them so much that i have have gotten away from jacketed bullets. although i will take suggestions on the jacketed. i use commercial cast boolits and so far i have a 165gr cast rn(.313"/ 11-12bhn) that bullshop has.  https://bullshop.weebly.com/bullets.html   i like medium weights(150-165gr)!!! so if you have anyone else that sells cast boolits, i'm all ears!!! the jacketed bullet that is medium weight is sierra 150gr spt and prvi 154gr rn. there's also one bullet thats me interested in, 123gr hornady sst. what do you think about it for hunting deer?

I acquired a 7.62X39mm Ruger American Range Rifle for similar reasons.

I mounted a Leupold VX1 2-7X scope on it.

I use Hornady Black 123 Gr SST for deer.  It is new and the deer are scarce.

My choices were a CZ 527 or a Ruger.

I like mine.

cptkiller,  i was looking at ruger american but it was "plastic" stock. i don't like "plastic", i'm more of a wood/blue steel guy. that is the only reason. i was down to the cz 527 and the ruger mini 30 in x39. i've shot the ak-47, sks and others in my Army days. but i always thought that was a russian piece of junk so i forgot about the x39. go 25+ years later, the x39 is what i need!!! the mini 30 had my attention but gizmos and springs that you "have to have" detracted it. so i go the cz.

wobbly, thanks!!!!! i've already gone thru the search selection!!!

Welcome! I have been shooting my CZ 527M in 7.62x39mm with cast bullets for quite some time, Lee 160 and 155s and my favorite, the NOE 129. I find it to be far more accurate than the Lee slugs. I powder coat my cast bullets, too, and find it helps greatly with cleanup. I don't buy them - I cast my own.
The Hornaday SST is exactly my slug for hunting and other uses. It works quite well so far, but I have not had the opportunity to use it on any larger game. Accurate bullet for me, and I trust Hornaday.
