So, what do folks think of using the 97 with soft target loads for steel challenge? May try it this weekend rather than 9mm. Would be great to hear anyones experience.

I've used my 97 be shooting our local steel challenge a few times and look forward to it this April. Bought it straight from CGW so can't comment on the stock model. Using S&B 230gr it was pure joy. Another shooter commented that I handled it well. Not really me, the recoil was so mild I was kind of speechless.

I did the pro package upgrade so it?s pretty slick. Hope to use it this weekend at a match. Will advise.

Seems to work w steel challenge - 4.0 clays and 185 swc. But the stock sights need to go, slow down target acquisition. Will try the cgw "over 40" sights.

Yes, upgrade the sights but look into a corrected lens for your dominant eye. Decot.com has some options. They can mount the diopter at the top of the lens vs the bottom. Then you slightly tilt your head down for the sight picture.
Measure the distance of your front sight to your eye. Then figure out the correct power for that distance. Mine is about half what I use for reading. If your eyes aren?t too bad you will still be able to see the target but it will be a little fuzzy. A clear .115 wide front sight is much more accurate for me than a narrow .090 front sight with uncorrected vision.
That?s my experience and preference for my style of shooting.

I'm sure it would work fine. Why would you do it? There is no power factor requirement. The ammo is more expensive to reload. It's like a nickle more a round to shoot. Other than as a novelty, why do it?

Fun.
