Title: What happened to the 712 Utility G2?
Post by: cipioh on April 18, 2019, 07:22:35 AM
So I decided I wanted to build a budget semi-auto 3-gun/fun shotgun. I did the research, and I really liked the CZ712 Utility G2 for that platform. I read a bunch of your posts on here and other forums, and watched a lot of videos. Back in the 2009-2012 timeframe, there was a LOT of activity on this gun...but it all sorta just died.  What happened? Did everyone fall out of love with this gun?  I did some scientific research (querying many social media platforms) and developed a graph of the actual sentiment regarding the CZ 712 Utility. Here is what I came up with:

Well... I don't care if you guys love it or not...I still kinda like it. As it turns out, a local gun shop had it on the wall... and for $440 it was pretty much an impulse buy. I have been playing grown up legos with it and doing the usual mods which I found people did to make it a better 3-gun shooter. I got it to the range yesterday and put a quick 100 hulls through it, and it didn't hiccup once... so I am really happy.

I've put on a HiViz bead, Carlson LM extended choke, Nordic +3 tube extension, Taran Tactical extended bolt release....

I have a Daves Metal Works oversized safety button on the way... and I ordered, but haven't seen any shipping info on a CZ oversized bolt handle...

You know, pretty much EVERYTHING THAT WAS COOL 5 OR 6 YEARS AGO!

:-)

Anyone else still tinkering on these, or have you all moved to the Stoeger M3K?  ;D

And... if you are still reading this... does anyone have an extended bolt handle for this for sale?  I am not sure the one from CZ is going to come through. I can't find them anywhere else because....well... you all stopped loving the 712.  EDIT: I just checked my order, and apparently the one I ordered doesn't exist... it's now showing as backordered and my order status is "incomplete". Great...

I've been trying to talk myself out of one of these for a few weeks. Pretty cool set up you've got. Have you shot skeet with it? Curious as to how well it fits that role for the occasional clay shoot.

I guess no replies means everyone fell out of love with it. I have a 712 and have the same problem. Thanks for your post.

I just got one a couple days ago....Issue now is finding ammo at a reasonable price. Thinking of using it for competition as well....

I’ve had one (gen 1) for a few years now. I’ve been doing small mods to it. I picked up an oversized Handel from CZ directly ($36 approximately). I have a Steiner light and mount on my threaded end cap. I will have it out once in a while to break clay or hunt. I’ve moved to Franchi and Beretta (1301) for more mods, clays, and hunting; but I still enjoy the CZ.

I just picked one up myself and I did order the extended charging handle from the CZ-USA website. I still haven't got a reply back or shipping and it still states staging on their website. Now, my question is where did you get the magazine tube extension for it. I have tried the Carlson's that I got from Midway USA and even though it stated that it would fit a CZ 712, it didn't.

If possible could you provide an SKU/model number of the one you purchased so I might be able to locate it. Thanks.
