Title: shadow 2 grip
Post by: chet45 on May 03, 2019, 10:05:25 PM
after shooting my new shadow 2 for a few hundred rounds, one thing i am seeing that my natural hold when i bring the gun up on target is the front sight i about 1/8in high, i have to concentrate on holding the gun down a bit, what are some tips so i can get the gun to be better on target when i bring the gun up on target, was thinking of possibly building up bottom inside up to maybe change it so i don;t have to concentrate on holding the gun properly.

Dry fire is your best friend. Dry firing will establish your ?index? and will automatically point to that ?index? after so many repetitions during dry firing. Put a dot or target on your wall and practice your draws repeatedly until you have established your index.

My index changes when I go for iron sights on my shadow2 to the red dot on my TSO or CM. It takes a few draws until I finally reestablish my ?index? on the red dot equipped pistols.

I find that my point of impact will vary up or down depending on how well I am picking up that front sight.  If I cannot pick it up quickly and clearly, I will tend to elevate the muzzle to try to see the sight.  Same principle that applies to military/LE shooting at night - you are trained to aim low because you tend to elevate to try to find the front sight.

I agree dry fire practice will do as much or more for you than live rounds.
If you do it alot you will be amazed on how much your accuracy improves when at the range.

This is one of the main reasons I do NOT prefer the Shadow2 frame over the SP01 style frame with the rounded trigger guard.

Try to rotate your support hand forward a bit more but that can cause additional sympathetic movement. YMMV.

Yeah the Shadow 2 naturally pointed a bit high for me compared to a Shadow 1/SP01 when I had one.  Not as much as a Glock, and pretty simple to adapt.  I Think it's a combination of a little higher upper tang and how the backstop angles out more towards the bottom.  One of the reasons why I also sold my Shadow 2 and have settled into the Shadow 1/SP01 platform.

I also found it quite difficult to find some grip panels that I was comfortable with on the Shadow 2.  Thin aluminums are always too thin for me, but I didn't like any palm swells either.  On my Shadow 1's, I go with Hogue Rubber Wraparounds but with the finger groove/frontstrap section cut off, or a 'mid-thickness' set of LOK G10's.  But neither of those felt right for me on a Shadow 2.  Guess it just wasn't meant to be.

+1  Did not realize how much the SP-01 worked until I purchased, shot, and sold a Shadow 2.
