Title: My first S&W Revolver
Post by: Claymore504 on July 26, 2019, 06:05:40 PM: So, I have several revolvers, but they are all Ruger. Rugers hold a special place for me since my Dad's Ruger single six was the first handgun I fired. Well, I have always wanted a S&W, but I am not knowledgable on them for the most part. This beauty showed at my LGS and I had the owner hold it for me while I researched it. Ended up getting it. it is a Model 36 and best I can figure out it was made sometime in the mid to late 1960s. it is in excellent shape. Previous owner got it from his grandmother when she passed away. He just had it in his closet for 30+ years and decided to sell. I am pretty pleased with my find! Feel free to inform me about the Model 36.

I thought it was pretty neat that the grip had the matching serial number on it!

Post by: SI VIS PACEM PARRABELLUM on July 26, 2019, 06:42:30 PM: Did you happen to get the original box? You can submit the serial number to S&W and they can give you some history on the gun including the year of manufacture and possibly where it originally shipped out to.
They are great shooters and still the best small frame revolver going. Mine is my go to when a smaller gun is called for.

Post by: Ron M. on July 26, 2019, 07:25:28 PM: Very nice, those little J-frames are great carry and shooting revolvers. If it's as old as you think, stay away from +P ammo. The standard velocity Hornady Critical Defense 110gr is an excellent choice for carry ammo. Buffalo Bore's 150gr hard cast wadcutter works well too.

just a note, the real S&W fanatics call them "stocks" instead of "grips" (like everyone else would) :o

Post by: lewmed on July 27, 2019, 12:48:25 PM: That indeed is a nice find it looks almost like new you will find it to be a great shooter and very accurate I've had many model 36's over the years. The older S&W's revolvers are getting harder to find in that condition a few months ago I picked up a very nice 3" model19-2 from a guy while waiting inline to get into a gun show.

The box was not included. That would have been nice for sure.
