98% of what I shoot I roll myself. But. I have bought factory ammo when it's cheap enough. I have shot some Geco and it was fully functional and reliable in 9mm. I tried some Maxxtech in .380 a few years back and it was pretty abysmal in 3 guns. Rumor has it Maxxtech may be actually made by Tula but I only know what I've read so I can't prove that.
-
Expansion Ammunition has been far better than anything I've used, and it's often under 20 cents per round.

Maxxtech isn't very high on my list. (not to be confused with Magtech which is made by S&B's parent company CBC in Brazil). S&B is my go-to ammo.
However, I really like Geco 9mm. Especially the stuff made in Germany which I find to be very clean and accurate. I've used both their 115gr and 124gr. In fact, I just bought 2 cases Geco 124 from Outdoors Limited at 16cents that I'm picking up at their warehouse this week. O0 YMMV

Good bulk reloads can be had from Georgia Arms. Look at their "Canned Heat" line. Also under 20 cents per.

Thanks, Wobbly!
I should point out that Expansion Ammunition is in Carrollton, Texas, so you can save on shipping by picking it up yourself if you are in DFW.
I can probably get a discount code for you guys at some point if there's any interest.

All this info is in the Stickies. Certified reloaders are listed by state exactly for the reason you give.

I actually can't find the sticky you're referring to.
I know you are constantly having to remind people that we have a lot of info already saved somewhere, and I appreciate your intent and effort. Making sure that everyone sees consistent, vetted info is paramount to a quality forum. Thank you.

You really need an eye exam. How many fingers am I holding up ? O0
It's inside the first Stickie, which leads you to 10 other files. That's why it's called a Directory.

I bought a case of the Geco years ago. I was interested in the brass, which is great stuff.
At that time the bullets were steel jacketed lead which could be an issue at some ranges. Not sure if that's still the case. The ammo itself was good. No failures, at all.

Here's from the two cases 9mm 124gr I picked up yesterday at $155 per 1000. Sure looks like all brass FMJ to me. Notice also the ballistics specs on the box. I've been really pleased with this ammo, and you can't beat it at the price!

A magnet will tell the tale. ;)

The Geco ammo would be awesome for me. if it wasn't so hot. I prefer 124s that are closer to 1100fps...velow it if I'm lucky. Expansion is the only option I've found. Do you know of any 124s that run at a lower velocity?

Yeah, the European ammo seems to run hotter. But that's my preference if it's clean and consistent. Hotter like my SD Hollow-points. As Wobbly mentioned a reloader will get you what you want, but maybe not the price. I don't like WIN as I find a lot of brass chips. Blazer, Lawman, Magtech 124's might be more to your liking. -JMO
S&B 124's are my go-to. They're what CZ usually uses to test fire. Slightly milder but not so mild they won't cycle a new gun properly. Keep in mind these are probably tested with 6" barrels so with a 4" velocity and PF will be less.
When I can find them, they're less than $10/box and sometimes under $8.

My CZs seem to like the Federal 115 grain FMJ ammo I get at Walmart. Usually around $17 or $18 for the 100 round boxes. Accurate and reliable.
I've not shot any of the Geco, Maxtech, S&B, etc. Shot some Winchester and Remington and the CZs don't do as well with that as the Federal.
My newer M&P 2.0 5" does it's best with the Winchester Nato 124 grain FMJ. Beats out the Federal 115 grain and my 115 grain reloads that also do well in the CZs.
Guns are funny. I have no idea why the M&P does better with the dirty Winchester vs. the cleaner burning Federal and my reloads, but it does.
Guns are like that. A load that shoots/works well in one gun won't do as well as something else in a different gun.
With reloading, sometimes, you can find a load that works well in several guns. I can tell you that the loads that do well in my CZ 9MM and .40 S&W pistols don't do as well in my M&P pistols. Then again, the M&Ps don't do very well at all, compared to my CZs, when it comes to shooting small groups.

And the cases I have in the reloading room hanging from a magnet sure look like brass too. :o

Just to clarify...the bullets were brass plated steel jacketed. The cases are brass.
It all looked like brass.

Please,
Case and bullet jacket is non-magnetic. Scratched through, Bullet jacket is either solid brass or solid copper. Hey, if you'd rather sort through bogus cases and re-load the decent ones I understand. I'd rather spend my limited time at the range with good 9mm ammo I can buy in bulk for <16 cents/rnd. Geco made by RUAG IMHO is one of the good ones. O0 YMMV

sometimes that is correct, but I have been to ranges that magnet test the customer ammo. I've seen several boxes of Geco fail the test.

So, apparently GECO does make some magnetic rounds.
The 115gr and 124gr GECO I have purchased in bulk is NON-MAGNETIC. It's good ammo. Accurate, clean, consistent. I understand GECO is popular in IPSC competition.
If you buy new factory ammo, not reloaded GECO cases, from a reputable supplier like SGAmmo, they will confirm if it's non-magnetic IF you're concerned about that.

The case of ammo I bought was many years ago. The bullets were definitely steel jacketed, with a brass plating. Glad to hear they've gone to brass jackets.
-
I've run across those as well, looked like brass, but was definitely steel, the magnet told the tale, I was shocked, was about to reload them, glad I checked with a magnet.

I've never seen brass plated steel Geco cases, just projectiles.

I've seen the Geco 9mm made in Switzerland, Germany and the latest from SG Ammo (good price right now) is made in Hungary. According to the Q&A's on Target Sports USA, the Swiss bullets have a magnetic bi-metallic jacket. The Hungarian jackets are reportedly non-magnetic.

Great! Thank you for the information! I'll probably order from SG Ammo Hungarian-made ammo if it is brass-only and can be used for reloading.
Looking for other Labor Day deals on ammo.

I repeat, all Geco cases are brass. Only some of the bullets are steel jacketed.

I just received a case of the 124 9mm Geco 'white box' Hungarian made from SGAmmo yesterday. It absolutly is non-magnetic. all brass. Good stuff - priced right.
It's accurate, clean, and fairly hot just like my SD ammo.
-
About 1.5 years ago my brother bought a case of Geco 9mm from Target Sports. He brought it to his range, shot some, the range master said you are creating sparks, let me see that ammo - it was a magnetic BULLET - solid brass case.
He sent target sports an email about it, they replaced it for free since it wasn't advertised as having steel in the bullet.
Maybe it helped that he bought a LOT of ammo from them.
-
IMHO geco 124 runs too hot for competition. I usually try to keep my reloads around 1050 fps for quicker follow up shots in competition. Accuracy isn't as impt as in bullseye shooting, esp inside 20 yds for the most part.
-
My Geco 9mm order from SGAMMO was delivered. It has letter "R" on the headstamp, which means RUAG factory.
Checked with magnet that it is not magnetic. Neither case nor projectile. Looking forward for my next range visit.

Update: this ammo (124gr Geco) is amazing!!! Very accurate and zero recoil. Here is my range report: https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=107383.0
