Title: Weapon lights for Micro
Post by: Trooper894 on September 08, 2019, 12:16:19 PM
Picked up a Micro this past week as a little brother to my standard braced pistol with carbine handguard. Looking for suggestions and/or ideas of what other folks are using for weapon lights on your Micros. There isn't a lot of real estate for attaching a light so I prefer something compact, in keeping with the size of the weapon. Since the Micro is primarily a short range weapon, the light doesn't need extreme light output.
Will be adding a forward sling mount on the left front of handguard, so prefer to mount the light on the right side of the weapon, to keep it common with my standard pistol and my MP5 and to keep my field of vision on the left side as clear as possible. Remote switch location to be determined. Photos of current Micro only setups would be extremely helpful.

I had originally used the Insight WML because frankly, the form factor is great and the light output is good, and they get fairly good reviews... Mostly. Lots of people are using these, but both of the ones I used (one bought, the other a replacement from the company) had the same problem: when I moved the weapon around, the light would randomly blink off, and I would have to shake the weapon to get it back on - not good at all for a weapon light used to clear a building/home. After two of these faulty lights, I decided that they just didn't pass the reliability test, and something else was needed.

Like you, I wanted something compact with decent output, but not necessarily blind-you-forever output. I also didn't want to spend $300 or whatever, and really wanted to stay at or under $100. After *a lot* of searching, I stumbled upon this little gem:

LUCID Optics C3

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XJ5M3HK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XJ5M3HK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

It's very light, *very* compact, and it's easily bright enough for home defense situations.

There's a decent review of it here with someone using it on a Scorpion, with pics for an idea of what it'll look like:

I have had zero reliability issues with mine and am very happy with it in pretty much every way. I'm not aware of remote switch capability with it, though, so it might not fit your bill perfectly. But it's another option to look at.

Olight PL Pro or PL 2 Valkyrie on 9 0’clock position. If you use the Magpul Mlok sections you will need to cut down the provided screws so it doesn’t hit the Nosprey. I activate with my thumb-it’s just a small push downwards to activate it. An extended charging handle is needed to so you can clear the light. I always thought the factory one was way to small anyways. The Olights use a lever to attach and remove. Makes it very easy to take off when not needed and attach when needed. I also haven’t  had any accidental activations when I have it stashed in my TUMI briefcase.

I did something a little different on mine, I mounted a five slot MLOK rail on the bottom of the HBI handguard then attached a Streamlight TLR-2 HL G light with green laser. My off hand rests on the mag well and magazine and I have it adjusted so I can flip it with the index finger and middle finger of my off hand when hanging onto the mag well.

I've acquired a couple of INFORCE WML's of late.  I run the 400 lumens model on my 805, and a 700 lumens model on my HD AR.  The head unit and lens hold up fine to the muzzle blast, and the ergonomic design - with the light close to the rail and gun - they are perfect for tight quarters and small spaces.  No wires or extended light body from the weapon, to tangle in your sling or chest rig, either.

I have a SightMark LoPro Mini Combo (SM25012) on mine.  Small package, green laser and light with strobe.  My Micro S2 is one of my range toys but I also use it for home defense.....

Im using the streamlight TLR 1HL, 800 lumen sure is nice if you decided to shoot at night, its awesome to be able to spot your target 100 yds away with your weapon light and still smack it with some 147 grain subsonics

I'm going to resurrect this thread because I'm wondering if there is more/additional input over the past year or so on light options for the Micro-K Scorpions.

Right now I just have a short pic rail on the right side that I can throw a WML or X300 on but it is not easy to activate it with my support hand.

I've considered doing something a little different like putting on an Arisaka offset M-Lok scout mount, an Arisaka 300 light and something like a ModButton lite with the cable routed under the hand guard but since this would be a big spend I'm hoping someone else has already tried it and can share their experiences.

I have the standard ModButton with the integrated Scout Mount on one of my other weapons, a 300BLK SBR and I put it on just to see how it would work. It's pretty good but my optic sits so low it obstructs the view quite a bit when I put my thumb on it.

I did what AgentX3 did, mount a rail on the bottom and attached the light .. right side green laser.. left side nothing I don’t want anything in the way of the action when charging the weapon.

^^^yes
I got the Odin mini also - I like it. I'm done buying expensive weapon lights... I have several Olight products. They work and don't break the bank.

I went with Cloud Defense Rein Micro.  Love the cable management and throw of it.

I bottom-mounted a light once.

Once.

That IS an awkward place to activate one.   :-\
