Title: So who's USED steel case ammo in their CZ 805?
Post by: the war wagon on September 08, 2019, 10:37:00 PM
I'm an ammo snob with my AR's, and use ONLY brass-cased ammo.  But this 805 Czech tank - how does IT handle steel case?  Any firsthand experience?  Any brands run better than others?  CLEANER than others?  Inquiring minds want to know...

So EVERYBODY uses brass-cased.  AWESOME.  No changes needed on my end - cool!   ;D

I don't have an 805, but I have used steel case .223/5.56 ammo. Of  the ones I've used, Silver Bear is the best, then Brown Bear, Wolf and Tula in last place.

Silver Bear is also my preferred 9mm Mak ammo.

or you could try the Swedish made contract overrun 62gr open tip that Winchester is selling. Good stuff.

This is excellent ammo! I don't understand why it is selling so cheap. It is very accurate and I believe cases are reloadable after military crimp is removed. I use it as my range ammo (target shooting), but some folks mentioned that it is good for self defense too (according to gel tests).

I do all the time. My dept buys cheap ammo for training. Wolf steel case or the poly-whatever. Of course we qualify/carry legit 77grain Blackhills. But I’ve never had one malfunction with this weapon regardless of what ammo I’ve run through it. Hope this helps.

the price used to be great because it was contract overrun and they wanted it gone (and some money back).

Once people realized how good it is, the distributor holding it is raising the price to retailers (I bought at $259/case and the distributor is increasing their price to $280/case, so SGAmmo has said this is the last of it they will carry). It probably will still be a good deal at the new price, but I won't be able to get it from SGAmmo then.

I ran some Silver Bear .308 through my PTR91 as a test case years ago, and was suitably impressed, for it being steel case.  That WOULD be my first... and probably ONLY choice... in steel case 5.56.  Just curious to see if the 805 is temperamental with the stuff.  Being built like a TANK, I would think it would eat steel case just fine... but then, that's WHY you ask the CZ BOARD; who ELSE would know for SURE?   ???

I've heard good things about the Swedish stuff on other forums.  Reminds me of the Greek (Centurion) M193 overrun ca. 2008 - GOOD stuff cheap, but was only around a short time.  I've blown through 3k of that stuff over the years at the range.  May hafta get a can of that Swedish stuff as well.
