Title: Sometimes things just go wrong...
Post by: boss281 on December 11, 2019, 04:41:16 PM
I have the Scorpion pistol, and upgraded the trigger, trigger spring, right side safety, magazine release and charging handle. Added the SB brace and use it in unsanctioned Steel Challenge events at local ranges.  Been fun.

Yeti Wurks grip comes in.  Easy peezy, right? One screw, slide off, put on new, screw back on.

Ok, down in basement at armorer's bench, pistol is in a rifle stand.  Pull grip out of bag, looking it over, hear the dog, all 16lbs, come down the steps and run across the basement to me, spin in my chair to greet him, he jumps up, pushes me and chair into table, Scorpion tumbles out of rifle stand onto floor. Crap.  Inspect it.  See marring on charging handle and same side plastic safety.  No biggy.

Unscrew stock grip, slide it off, and the left side of the mount on the receiver has snapped off.

Working with CZ to expedite getting left side of the receiver, hopefully in green.  Out of stock but they are looking for me.

Glad I ordered the carbine the other day which should be here tomorrow or Friday.  Buy more upgrades for THAT gun.  Money money money...

Things happen...

UPDATE: I called CZ to discuss finding a way to get their out of stock left side of the Scorpion receiver expedited. Instead, they said to send it in under warranty because they can fix it faster than waiting for parts to be available to consumers.  But wait, I say, I was negligent and dropped it.  Oh, but it still shouldn't have broke, says CZ. The gunsmiths are curious if this was a manufacturing defect.

What a company! :) :) :) :) :)

Don't know which I should like more, your pup or scorpion  :)...Okay the pup wins hands down. On the serious side, glad to hear CZ is going to take care of it for you, this is why we buy from CZ!

Lol. Here they are side by side. I shot the pistol in an unsanctioned steel match and ripped through faster than my 9mm Colt AR. Pup sits next to me while I write my novel. Both good companions...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191213/5a9a8a5a63ab1f6599974160e6432806.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191213/2b1aae3feb8947c7dbadc0c34c192378.jpg)

Awesome news from CZ! In this day and age when a company steps up for their customers they deserve to be recognized!

After watching Rob Ski over at AK47 Operators Union put the Scorpion through the torture test, I am concerned that your gun broke the way it did.  There had to have been a defect on that sample. IMO

I think that may be one reason they want to look at it...

And for the 4-6 week wait to get my Scorpion pistol repaired, I picked up a nice carbine, and ordered the usual aftermarket parts...next match is early January...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191216/5601116a47cbd50b32f92cecac2f44a5.jpg)

UPDATE: No news. It's been four weeks since CZ received the broken Scorpion, just get weekly reminders they have and wait 4-6 weeks for a typical repair. :(

UPDATE
CZ informed me they are unable to get a replacement receiver and are replacing the firearm. In MD I have to pay a $50 registration fee and have it sent to an FFL of my choice.

Waiting on word it was shipped...

Boss,
Thanks for that update. I wonder why receivers are not available, even to them for repairs. The parts don't seem that expensive and they are relatively easy to work on I believe. It also seems that four weeks is a long time to figure this out since your receiver was known to be broken at the beginning.

Never-the-less, You will get a new one. I'm happy for you.

Richard

Good question, my guess is very few break. The armorers were very interested in seeing the defect in person.

UPDATE (again): brand new Scorpion pistol arrives at my FFL Tuesday, then I start Maryland's 7 day wait period. Finally...

They should have been able to send it directly to you.  Since you are getting the same SKU, I thought a replacement does not need to go through an FFL.

Maryland requires registration of pistol by serial number. since the serialized part is not being sent back to me and getting a brand new gun I have to both register the new gun and declare the old gun destroyed.

Finally, received the replacement.. CZ was kind enough to move over my aftermarket trigger upgrade and spring, mag release and charging handle. I put back on my brace and cMore red dot. Shoot it tomorrow!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200212/b3528f3f9f2adda3e831cfd7168838d0.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200212/99f2d6a0b90066c7ba1106f712410943.jpg)

Looks like CZ went above and beyond to take care of your "issue". Glad to hear that it worked out for you. Enjoy.
