Title: Fastest way to load 10-22 mags
Post by: newageroman on January 07, 2020, 03:38:39 PM
I was at the range this weekend and a friend had a Savage bolt rifle in 22 lr. It was a fun little gun, but loading the mags sucked. While he was fumbling with their 10 shot rotatry mag, I was quickly sliding rounds into the MKII scoped slabside mags using the ultimate reloader. It made me realize that most of the fun of 22lr is fast plinking piles of ammo. My friend saved a bunch of rounds by taking his own sweet time with mag loading.

I don't have one yet, but sometime this year a 22 rifle will be done. Maybe a 452/455, but more likely a 10-22 or a brownells receiver build, possibly some other fun tactical style bolt action. BUT... after yesterday, loading the ammo will definitely be a consideration. Loading the mags took most of the fun out of that gun. Is there any rifle that will take the ruger 22 mags that I have a small stack of, or what is the fastest way to load the 10-22 mags? If the charger wasn't so ugly and took pistol mags I'd be all over it.

Thx

Maglula makes a loader, which is pretty much a '1 at a time' loader that saves your thumbs (similar to their other products).  Champion Shooting Gear and Caldwell both make a speed loader; both get mixed reviews.  I have not used any of them, so I can't provide first-hand info.

I can't speak for the Maglula .22 loader but the 9mm version I have is one of the very best items I've ever purchased.

The Maglula is a must have for 10/22's at Steel Challenge matches.

For very fast reloading of the 20-round mags for my Ruger 10/22 Takedown check out:  www.hcmags.com and watch their video for the HC3R Speed Reloader:

The charger uses standard 10/22 magazines. If you are shooting from a bench with the factory bipod, then the BX-15 is as long of a mag to use (putting pressure on a BX-25 can cause feed problems on a Charger or 10/22).

The Butler Creek Hot Lips loader is what I've used for the last 25 years or so to load 10-22 mags. Simple to use and durable.

Just about anything and everything seems to cause feed problems with the BX-25 for me.   :(

The HCMAGS loader looks good and works great about 20% of the time don't waste your money.

My BX-25 works fine when I am standing, but really didn't like being the third leg of a tripod with the charger. Mostly I use the rotary 10s since I'm not trying to pretend I'm Jerry Miculek and seeing how fast I can burn ammo.
