Title: SP primers on sale - any experience using them?
Post by: Goju on January 20, 2020, 08:55:57 AM
I received an email this morning for these SPP’s, looks to be of “Yugo” manufacture. Is this too good a deal to pass up, or a crap shoot?

These may have came around 4 or so years ago, during the Obama love fest.

I had bad experiences with Eastern blok primers during that time, with 1 of every 100 not igniting. So for general plinking these would be good, but (at least my feeling) not for competition.

You might be better off with the 12K case from Fiochicci, which comes in at about the same price/1000. Or, hold off. Primer prices are starting to slip again.

Exactly what I was looking for, having no experience with them. Thanks

Don't take that as gospel.  Just saying that for the price difference, my style of shooting, and investment costs they would not be my preference.

I bought a case in small rifle a while back.

No issues.

I have gone through a couple hundred of them in my AR. No problems.

Got some and tried them, seem to work as well as others.

Did they impress you as thick or thin cups ? Did you note any issues with seating ?

I bought 5,000 of these primers.  I believe that they were Magnum Small Pistol Primers.  The first 1,000 worked flawlessly, the second 1,000 1-3% needed a double strike to ignite.  I blamed the need for a second strike on a 75B that had the springs and hammer changed out by  CZC, but when a bone stock P-10C had the same issues, I blamed the primers.  They are sitting in the garage until I get the ambition to see if something I have will ignite these first time every time.

This was two years ago, and your results might vary.

Never miss a "training" opportunity! I hear ya Wobbly on match/target ammo so with that stuff use well know reliable components. BUT for training/self-defense "practice" etc something like these could be beneficial with extra tap/rack opportunities! I'm in pretty good shape with SPP but for you guys that have these put them aside and use for that style of shooting/practice, if that's not your thing I understand, but just trying to make use of what ya have on hand, might as well use em up!   ;)

No problems seating them or any thing else. I mixed some in with WIN and CCI primers and could not tell any difference.

I'll use them up, I'm too cheap to let them waste.  At the time I had four firearms that used SPP and now I have many more from different manufacturers.  I know something will be able to use these for sure, it's just a matter of finding the right combination.

Sounds like a good ideal & why not. Even though I'm good with SPP its looks like a darn good deal so I just might get 10K and stash them! I don't know if you guys remember but I'm sure some do when Wolf Primers were like $15 bucks per 1000! I bought a bunch but should have taken out a 2nd Mortgage on those,LOL   ;)
