For those of you who might be interested in the details on the new cartridge designed to work in 5.56mm (.223) Combat Rifles, the link at the bottom gives some interesting details.  To me the new cartridge does not offer anything that the 7.62x39 does not already offer, except perhaps a flatter trajectory.  However, I am keeping an open mind on the subject.  To me the bottom line is "Will the bullet do more damage than the current .223 62 grn projectiles?"  If not, why bother?

Yes, seems to be the darling topic with the AR-15 boys.
           
            I'm for anything that improves upon .223 stopping power.
            The .62 grain and .77 OTM loads are a step in the right
            direction, but a .260 or larger caliber can only be better.
           
           
           
            There has also been some talk about CZUB chambering the
            527 rifles for the new caliber. That Is..wishful thinking on the
            part of 527 owners who admire the .223.
           
            Myself, I am happy with the 527 in 7.62 x39.

            A CZ527 in 7.62x39 is on my "Wish" list.  Hope they might have one with a Mannlicher stock, by the time I get around to it.
           
            Have been netsurfing more on this subject, and am hearing that the newer 75/77 grn open tip (politically correct term for Hollow Point) loads, Mk262 and Mk262 Mod1, may be giving the .223 (5.56 mm NATO) a new lease on life, as they are proving quite effective.  This ammo is being used by Special Forces and Seals in the M4.

One market for the SPC would be for Varmint Hunters
            who shoot for pest control and not furs. These folks
            tend to use heavier calibers than the .223. The 6.8
            should act somewhat like a .243.
           
            Having the 527 Varmint chambered in 6.8 would be ideal.
           
           
             I like the 7.62 x 39 because it is cheap to shoot alot of,
            easy to reload for and reasonably accurate for my needs.
           
            Being an American cartridge. The 6.8 will probably find
            a home in many rifles. Some reports show it to have
            uncanny accuracy. CZUB's inherit  accuracy mated with this
            new technology has more than a few people excited here.
