Any problems with the compact in all steel ? I have went over it in my head time and time again and about to get a compact in 24 hours. I see no problems nor cons. I have gotten so tired of polymer pistols. Any information is appreciated.
-
The factory sights should be replaced. Other than that it is a great gun.
-
I have one with aluminum frame. I have only good things to say about it. No issues other than the mags rattle when full. Haven't figured out what causes it, its internal to the mags, the same issue with my SP-01 mags. Other than that, no complaints.
-
If you aren’t used to a DA/SA trigger, that first pull will seem sooooo looooong. Just takes practice though.
If using it for personal defense, I would recommend planning to spend a few hundred extra at Cajun Gun Works on one of their kits which will GREATLY improve the overall trigger pull. Also as was mentioned, plan on some new sights. These mods aren’t a must of course, as the gun should perform very well right out of the box. In fact, I would put a few hundred rounds through it first, then decide what if anything you’d like to tweak.
-
Agree, sights and a few CGW parts and it’s an amazing little gun. I’ve put just over 12k rounds through mine in the past 2 yrs without a single issue

Thanks guys . I had a 75 full size over 20 years ago but got rid of it. i recently got a 75 SAO and fell back into the CZ fever. If things go right , then I'll have a compact tomorrow. It's made in 2018 , has the box and 2 mags for $440.

I've no problems to report, other than the stock, slippery, black, plastic grips. The only mod I've made in eight years is to replace the grips with VZ Frags. (I sprayed two coats of Krylon truckbed liner on the grips of my 82 and 83s.) Steel frame makes it a soft shooter. Plenty of accessories available should you wish to customize. With a stout gunbelt and good holster carry weight is not an issue.
Have a good purchase.
-
Have had my Compact since 2005. Thousands of rnds. No issues.
Stock sights, rear dots changed to black, front dot to fluorescent green.
Cheapo grips changed to thins from CGW.
This is my CCW and has been converted to SAO w/stock CZ parts.

Ok thanks much all you guys. I got it today ! I am soaking it right now in Ballistol. What is a good leather OWB holster that has nice THICK leather ? I rather have some good THICK leather. I have 2 great gun belts.
-
If you plan to carry the 75 Compact I'd say the weight. I have a CZ 75 Compact which I carried some IWB in a TT Gunleather Mike's Special and it was just a bit heavy.

I now carry a CZ P01 OWB in a leather holster, the P01 has an alloy frame.

I put the CZ 75 Compact RUBBER grips on all my metal framed CZs that didn't come from the factory with them. Nice and "grippy."
I put night sights on a couple of them (I think I bought the ones CGW sells). Put a DP Pro on another one.
I carry my CZs cocked and locked (all of them are either safety model CZ75s or Omegas with the safeties installed).
Not sure if any of them have "rattily" magazines but I noticed awhile back that my FNS .40 rattles rounds in the mag. as I walk back and forth to the garage or the shed with it in the holster. Evidently FN can't design a quiet fully loaded magazine either. O0
Don't notice the weight.
I like the 16 round (full sized mags) with the bottom on them that makes them fit flush on the bottom of the frame. Some of the P01 Omegas come from the factory with those mags. I liked them on mine and ended up ordering a combination of magazines and bottoms (to convert some extra 16 round mags. I already had) so I'd have a few for each Compact/Omega P01. And then, of course, CZ comes out with new 15 round magazines to replace the older 14 round Compact magazines.
I carried my first one enough I wore the finish off the front of the slide, the slide release levers, safeties, etc. I'm thinking of getting it refinished with that hard black finish (nitride??) and maybe carrying it again some.
And, no issues. Neat little pistol.

I carry 30 pounds of gun , belt, radio and body armor all day for the last 23 years so this steel wont hurt.

[T]he P01 has an alloy frame.
So does the 75 Compact.
Per Merriam-Webster, an alloy is "a substance composed of two or more metals or of a metal and a nonmetal intimately united usually by being fused together and dissolving in each other when molten."
The 75 Compact's frame is an alloy made predominantly of iron, i.e., steel; the P-01's frame is an alloy made predominantly of aluminum.
By the way, a sidearm that feels heavy when carried is telling you a better belt-holster system is needed.

Yes of course if we use the metallurgical definition then anything that isn't pure as mined out of the ground would be a mixed alloy. The steel model is heavier obviously than the aluminum models although weight is not an issue of concern for me.

What is the non-metallurgical definition of 'alloy,' how is it applied to pistol frames, and how does it inform us of the weight of an unspecified alloy?
I've been to many mines. At none was the ore extracted in pure elemental form. All ores had to be refined or smelted to obtain the metal sought in the desired form.
The steel model is heavier obviously than the aluminum models although weight is not an issue of concern for me.
Given the atomic weight of iron is twice that of aluminum, and the density of iron is nearly thrice that of aluminum, an iron alloy (such as steel) is likely to be heavier than an aluminum alloy; depending, of course, what other elements in what quantities are contained in each alloy. However, the type of alloy was unspecified with the presumably implied assumption it was a lighter weight aluminum alloy, as if that is the only alloy CZ uses for frames, which is not the case.

When I have nothing better to do I like to split hairs too.

One of the best-shooting CZ's I own and I've literally done nothing to it but change the grips to VZ's. I'll eventually upgrade the sights at some point.

I shot a friend's quite a bit when I was trying to decide on Compact or PCR. I liked the heft of the Compact, but for some reason, the beaver tail tended to chew a hole in my hand. Look at pics of the 2 guns, the Compact is more squared off, for want of a better term, where the PCR and P-01 are smoother. The only issue I had with my PCR was a tendency of the stock trigger to bite my finger, fixed that by installing a different blade. Also replaced just the front sight with a FO unit, much better. Later.

I found the same issue w/my Compact, especially after I added a set of thin grips. As I knew I'd never sell this pistol, and she'd be my CCW, careful use of a file, polishing and liquid blue/black fixed that.

Hopefully it doesn't take you as long to split them...…

No problems to report. My only complain is that it’s little difficult to rack the slide.

I've been carrying one of mine off and on the last few days.
If it's cool enough to wear long pants/jacket I have the drop leg holster and the M&P .40.
In the afternoon, when it's warm enough to wear shorts, I've been carrying the project Compact IWB under a t-shirt.

Still feels pretty good.

I have always had an issue with the liberal use of the term “Alloy Frame” by gun manufacturers and gun sellers. Obviously, all steel is actually an alloy of some sorts. In the real world, commercially available “Alloy” steel in bar or plate is a chrome-moly type, like AISI 4130. Since there are so many misuses of the term being used synonymously for Aluminum and even Pot Metal [zinc alloy] frames, that there really should be some kind of impetus to clarify the term.

If you don't mind my asking, what is the finish on your 75D and where did you get it done?

"copperhead" cerakote from CGW. although if im not mistaken, they send it out. not sure where though. i had this added when i sent it in for the pro package

I always had an issue with the guys who are always trying to be too smart(not you bonj)but showing lack of brains instead. It is as simple as it gets, there are steel alloys and aluminum alloys, and bunch of other alloys. When you buy golden ring,it is not pure gold,it is alloy, but nobody calls it golden alloy ring.

It is a shame that CZ does not update the beaver tails on its whole lineup.

Well said, good analogy!
