Title: TSO .40SW conversion to 9mm
Post by: M4rc310 on March 24, 2020, 07:21:37 PM
I searched on this topic before posting the question and found some comments towards confirmation of this - but would like a definitive answer before I pull the trigger and buy a 9mm TS barrel.

Can I have a confirmation here that a TS 9mm barrel (PN 047004940706) can be fitted to a TSO chambered in 40SW?  And that all I need is the barrel and a gunsmith to do the fitting to me?  And no other part...

Thank you guys!
Marcelo.

Maybe.  Different breach face between the two calibers.  All of my conversions have been using complete slides.  I know it works with conversion barrels on Glocks and M&Ps but not sure that it will on a CZ since they are not selling conversion barrels but replacement barrels.

I could try it for you tomorrow when I go to the range and let you know.

Thank you! Yes, the breach faces are different and in my research I've found out that for that exact reason one can only do a 9mm barrel to a 40SW slide, but not the other way around.

This video shows an individual just trying that, without swapping the slides, just barrels... And he did not even do any fitting.  Which I believe it was just luck considering barrels are hand fitted to each slide.

I've done that conversion with a .40 cal SP-01 Tactical to run as a 9mm. That direction works. .40cal barrel doesn't work in a 9mm slide (breechface is too small).

Ok, great - the last confirmation I need is then that the TS barrel is the same as the TSO.  I couldn't even find a TSO barrel on the CZ catalog...

the barrel, perhaps an extractor, and magazines... probably want a 10-11# recoil spring for 9mm vs #12-14 for 40

I did the conversion and it worked fine after I got the extractors worked out.  the barrel may need fitting.

They’re the same. I bought a spare TS barrel for my from Midway. It was on clearance for $100 at the time. They still have them on sale for $123.

I see them at $152.99 at Midwayusa - where do you see them for $123?

I guess the price went up again. It’s back to its original price. Sorry about that.

I actually bought two when it was on clearance last month. I had one tapped for M14 x 1 thread for use as a third barrel for my czechmate which I just sent for reaming to 1.169”.

A buddy of mine has done the 9mm barrel in the TSO .40 frame/slide; however, its my understanding that this will not work in reverse.

No problem -  I ordered the barrel, and now just need to wait for late shipping with all this craziness about the COVID-19.   I also realized the mags are not interchangeable, so I will need to buy some CZ75 mags for 9mm too.

Yup can use .40 in 9mm mags but not 9mm in .40.

I hope you ordered CZ 75 TS mags, and not the standard CZ75 mags. These are different.
Also, I recall this being discussed here, that the .40 mags work with 9mm, and if I m not mistaken, they work the otherway round as well, only the capacities change..

As far as magazines go, I use the CZ P/N 11160 which is "supposedly" for the SP-01/ShadowII 9mm.  The magazines are marked side with witness marks for 9mm and 40 on the other side.  I have not had any issues with feeding either of the cartridges.  I buy this P/N when I buy new magazines.

Hope this helps

Thank you for the heads up - I did not order the mags yet.  I will wait until I can make sure the barrel fitting will be successful.   Yes, I know the mags are different, and unfortunately the Cz-75 TS ones are way more expensive :)

Yup can use .40 in 9mm mags but not 9mm in .40.

Exactly - I already proved this by trying to load some 9mm rounds on the 40SW mag.   The leaps are not narrow enough and the rounds will slip through.  I will need new mags for sure.

Just an update here: the barrel fitting was a success!  The TSO is a happy dual caliber (40SW and 9mm) beast now!!!!

I have been wondering what to do with my TSO 9mm now that I have A01-LD. I also have a TSO .40 to shoot major. I may have to look into getting a 9mm TS barrel. I haven't decided yet if I want to sell the TSO 9mm yet and put that money towards something else. Besides plinking, I wouldn't use it for any matches since the A01-LD had been approved for the production class.

Have you had any issues yet after fitting the 9mm barrel to the .40 slide?

Any suggestions on what to look for in a gunsmith to ensure this gets done correctly? What is a reasonable cost for this? Thanks

I have read that some conversions require a 9 mm extractor to run reliably, and some don’t.  Probably depends on tolerance stacking.

I got a message but can't reply for some reason concerning the 9mm barrel. Anyone know why I can't reply?

When you want CZC to do the modification, all you have to do is send the slide. I would call CZC first to see if the have a barrel in stock. There is a work order form you need to send out along with the slide. I sent my slide via the USPS because it got there faster and was cheaper than UPS.
