Title: VZ OR Lok grips?
Post by: WildTurk on April 06, 2020, 11:40:41 AM
Any suggestions on which to get for my Shadow 2 Orange 9mm?
I'm worried my hands are not big enough for palm swells that I want. I have average sized hands(I think). I do wear large gloves mostly. The VZs seem more expensive but maybe the quality is better? Any experts here? Thanks

I prefer VZ Grips, have had better luck with the fit/finish on the VZ.

All of my CZ's wear LOK Palm Swell Bogies. I tried VZ's early on and they were ok but LOK offered many more options.

I'm not an expert and in no way am I recommending a certain brand of grip. This is simply what I like and use.

Lok thin full checkered, I have them on my SP-01 and P-01. They are perfect for me.

Also, the torx screws I received for these grips are awesome!!!

Lok Bogies if you want grip.  I've had VZ's tactical diamonds that were slick and didn't offer enough grip.  Bogies are probably a little aggressive for daily carry.  I've had several pairs of LOK bogies in both thin and standard profile.  I use the LOK standard profile now on my TSO competition rigs.  Never had any issues with them from a fit and finish standpoint.

The stock S2O/TSO grips are actually quite nice.  The checkering is a good balance of grip and feel.  I just need more grip for competition and thus the bogies are the ticket.

I've have and use the thin aluminum grip tape grips from CZ Custom, and those used to be my choice for competition rigs (still on my SP01).  They are thin and the grip tape does provide good grip but my hands are large and I need more girth on the frame to ensure my weak hand has some real estate to grab.  My carry option is the aluminum aggressive checkering grip.  I traded a set of VZ's for these on my 40P.

The stock rubber grips on the SP-01 are quite nice too.  They are very ergonomic but tend to grab clothing.  If you hands get sweaty they get a little slimy as well.

The grips I haven't tried but would like to try are the Henning grips.  I think they have the same checkering as the front and back straps.  Plus the profile is rounder and has a relief at the top for a more slim feel.  I haven't tried them due to cost but they look nice!

What is the intended use for the S2?  That will help guide your options.

Cheers,
Toby

good write up! I have some black Lok palm swell bogies with orange liner being made for me right now! I can't wait to get them. I just worry my average sized hands won't wrap around my S2O correctly. I did read the shadow 2's are a little narrow stock so I am hoping I'm OK

I have VZ grips
I have LOK grips
I have wood grips
I have the Aluminum grips

LOK are very good grips, very good grips, and their customer service is second to none.....how do I know?
I have actually had more wrong orders and bad fit with LOK than any other company I've dealt with. I have bought more LOKs then any other company too so it may be relative.
But when they get it right and they do often and most of the time, they are the best grips I own.
I like a grip that grabs me back, you can't do better then LOK for that.

VZ grips are nice as well, a little less grippy but they look awesome on a CZ handgun....very awesome.
If funds are a consideration on a 60 dollar purchase then start with VZ and see what you think.
You can always sell them on here and get most of your $$ back on grips and use it to get started on the next brand.

RCG

Good luck sir.

I’ve had 5 sets of Lok grips for Tanfoglios and CZ’s.  They’ve always fit great and have been perfect.  Lok Bogies are my favorite, Thin grips for Tanfo’s and palm swells for CZ’s is what I have

I have multiples of both brands. Both are excellent. Prefer the Lok grips for my CZ's and Beretta's and VZ grips for my 1911's. The palm swells are great.

I currently have several sets of CZ grips.  I have LOK Bogies (both thin and standard thicknesses, but no palm swells for my hands), VZ Diamondbacks, stock rubber grips, a set of useless slick plastic CZ 75 grips, a couple sets of the original SP-01 Shadow stock grips (with tape inserts), and the original CZ blue aluminum grips that came on my Shadow 2.

I prefer LOK Bogies over everything else I have tried...  The VZ Diamondbacks are pretty good too, but it really boils down to personal preference.  I know of no other way to learn what you like best, other than to pay your money and use them for a while.  Merely trying your buddy's grips for a couple minutes may not be long enough to decide.

My suggestion is to buy a set of LOK Bogies (with palm swells if you have huge meathooks) thick, standard, or thin as your hand size dictates.  The thin grips were too small for me, and palm swells are too thick.  I didn't have to buy palm swells to know that...

You might not even want to look further after trying a set of Bogies...  I'm not!

I originally put LOK BOGIE Palm Swells on my Shadow 2 that I shot in competition a couple of times a week. For reference my glove size is medium-large.I shot well, but I just wasn't happy with the way it felt during competition, especially in shooting off hand only.I wanted to try the standard BOGIE LOK grips so I spoke to Jayson at LOK.He was very helpful and has excellent customer service.I ordered the regular size grips, and they worked better for me.I also have them on a Springfield Armory Range Officer Elite, and they are great on the 1911 platform also.

I would give LOK grips an unqualified endorsement.

I like the Lok thin bogies. Great for smaller to average size hands.

Grips are like asking which underware you prefer. I took a chance with Coolhand off eBay for my compact and they gitter done. I see no reason to mess with my Shadow 2 at this point. These are thin and grippy so that’s all I can ask for. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200426/0e8309049622a6fe4fad19ea0468c813.jpg)

Blood red Liner? I had a p-01 Omega with LOK Black Thin Checkered with Blood Red Liner grips. Loved’em.

Cherry Red. Has a little more pop than the blood red.  ;D

I've got LOK Bogie palmswells on a P01 and like them very much. I have Cool Hands on a Rami, and like them too. I've had VZs on 1911s and they've been great as well.

While it's completely subjective, and not apples to apples as they are very different guns, I'd say I prefer the Bogies (most grippy), then the Cool Hands (on appearance) then the VZs (which are still excellent).
