Title: Prototype or incomplete CZ-82 slide?
Post by: Bulletmonkey on May 24, 2020, 10:32:57 AM
Hi everyone, so I have an unusual situation and of the entire whole of the internet I have been unable to find an explanation for the situation I have. I recently replaced my old CZ-82 slide with one I bought from ebay because of a front sight issue. The new one is in lovely shape and doesn't appear to have had a rough life. However, when I went to put the new slide on, it wouldn't slide on even a quarter of the way. After investigating and experimenting I realized it was because of the "rails" of the slide for lack of the correct term (which I included photos of the area I mean with subtle red lines drawn in) Instead of having an angled cut to them, they were completely flat. The new slide is without question; a cz-82 slide but it's as if it were from some other variant, or perhaps machined incomplete.

I carefully took a dremel (I know this usually doesn't end well but I am a blacksmith and have some very basic machining experience) and added the angle by eye using the older slide as a reference. I worked it patiently until the new slide fits perfectly and the gun seems to cycle just fine.

My question is; does anyone know with any certainty why the new slide lacked the angle cut? It's very strange to me and I was under the assumption that all CZ-82 slides were the same. Check out the picture of the new next to the old slide, and you will see the difference, that the one on the left has the proper angle and the one on the right is completely flat.
