Title: Installation of thumb rest for Shadow 2. Anyone?
Post by: em44052 on June 26, 2020, 12:07:24 PM
Has anyone installed a thumb rest on you Shadow 2? I was shooting a buddy's TSO the other day, and really liked the thumb rest. I have already converted my S2 to SAO with CGW S2 kit and SAO flat trigger, so the trigger feels the same as the TSO, but I did like the thumb rest.

I shoot limited major with my TSO's and I now think a gun is naked when shooting without a thumb rest.  It feels weird.

You can get a slide stop thumb rest by Eemann tech here:  https://store.dot40.net/competition-arena/eemann-tech-4724/eemann-tech-slide-stop-with-thumb-rest-for-cz-shadow-2-black-2900709

Cheers,

Thanks Toby. I have looked at these, and I might be wrong; but it does not seem like a good idea to have a thumb rest on the slide stop. If someone has used them with no issue, I would like to hear about it.

My support hand’s thumb naturally rests on the frame in the middle of the “Made in the Czech Republic” rollmark.  I would have to adjust my grip to use a thumb rest mounted on the slide stop.

In looking at it I wonder if it will lock back prematurely?  On the flip side maybe it will prevent slide lock?  I haven't seen one in person so I cannot comment.

I personally don't run my slide stop on the TSO.  I use the included slide stop pins in place and my slide will not lock back on the TSO.  I put a small strip of grip tape to cover the hole where the slide stop nub inserts into the frame.  It is too cluttered to run the slide stop lever and I don't find any need.  In competition, if I ever run emtpy then I had too many misses or forgot a mag change.

Cheers,
Toby

I have an eemann tech slide stop on my shadow 2. I don't have a ton of rounds thru it yet but the function of the pistol is the same as stock. It does hold open on an empty mag.

How do you get a Eeman Tech slide release? They sell only to distributors don’t they? Can you get one here in the states?
Thanks

The only vender that I know of in the states is Dot40. They are located in Florida I believe. I ordered mine from them and it was a smooth transaction for me.

I do like it so far, it gives you a nice ledge to use and the gun still functions the exact same way as a stock gun. The placement of my thumb is in a fine spot for me but im sure its not ideal for everyone. The only way you could get it in the exact spot that you would want would be to drill and tap the frame like Stuart suggested in his response.

Thanks for reply I just ordered one . It will take adjusting too but will keep my weak hand thumb from rubbing Mag release.
Thanks

Ohmslaw, please let me know how you like the EEMANN TECH SLIDE STOP WITH THUMB REST FOR CZ SHADOW 2  when you get the chance to try it out. Very interested in this, but for $75, I would like your review first.

I ordered one last night from Dot40. I got order confirmation almost immediately and notification that it has been shipped first thing this morning. So it should be in my stack of mail when I get home next week from the job on.

I will post pics when I get it installed.

Got slide stop in and tried it out today little over 200 rounds through gun no issues at all. Little hard on thumb pretty aggressive hands getting soft my old age I guess. Happy with purchase worth it my opinion.

My thumb rest slide lock lever came in yesterday and I installed it last night.
I would love to show you what it looks like but I can't seem to figure out how to post pictures on this site.
I will try to find out how to and maybe do so after I get to try it out.
So far, I like the feel of it, but until I can put a few hundred round though my S2 with this installed, I will hold off on any more comments.

I took mine out yesterday, and I agree. It will irritate the thumb after a few hundred rounds, but it does seem to make my grip of the gun a bit more consistently stable.

I just got 2 more installed yesterday one on my 75B and the other on SP01. The SP01 I have upgraded with CGW parts it’s like a Shadow1 now runs neck and neck with my S2. The 75 CZC did complete upgrade on it wonderful pistol now. I like the feel for sure might put the extended safety on SP01 it’s only one without it. Wish they made one for 97B.
Let you know how they work on these two

Love these slide releases with gas pedals. I shot all 3 pistols with them installed really enjoy them makes for a better hand purchase for me personally. Easy to control pistol. I don’t think I need extended safety now for SP01. I like the aluminum grips I have but still like Lok palm swells jury is still out which one fits hand better both are good
Thanks

Thanks Ohmslaw. You have convinced me to order one of these slide releases. I changed out my aluminum grips for the Lok palm swell style. I love how the palm swell feels in the hand.

Your most welcome you will enjoy I believe. I tried the SP01 slide stop on my 97B it fit gonna see how it runs then I’ll get one more if all goes well. Makes big difference I think and my thumb is use to it know not to rough any more.
Let me know how you like it

The biggest advantage I have seen to mine is that having this to rest my support hand thumb on makes for a consistent and firmer grip every time.
Right hand firmly into the beaver tail. Left hand located via thumb rest.

I do suspect that my left thumb will developing so significant callusing.

I have used the eeman techs on multiple shadow 2 and they work great untill they don't. I have a high grip I guess and I have activated the slide stop once or twice. I switched over to a Matt Completion thumb rest because it deletes the slide stop and has worked great.

You can get them in U.S.A https://www.dot40.net/product/slide-stop-with-thumb-rest-for-cz-shadow-2-black/  but like I said it will lock the slide back if that's something you want or I personally recommend https://xrayparts.it/en/shadow-2-spare-parts/1691-cz-shadow-2-hold-open-thumb-rest-matt-competition-products.html   sorry don't know how to do the short cut just copy and paste.
