Title: VZ58 Side Rail Mounts for Optics
Post by: Scorepion on August 04, 2020, 01:32:24 PM
I could not find any feedback on the side mounts made  for the VZ58. Id be interested in hearing your experiences with the RS Regulate, model VZ-304M. Also interested in feedback on the Czechpoint mounts.

How are solid are they? Do they retain zero well?  I m thinking of running a small RDS (RMR size). My diminished vision worsens with irons in darker setting or black on black targets. Not looking to add weight of a LPVO

RS's products are well reviewed in AK circles.  Really no difference.

Main difference between CSA and RS is one vs two piece side rails.  IIRC, RS's sit a little lower and are lighter than CSA's.  RS has also made a lightweight side rail that'd save you add'l weight.

Thanks. I missed the side rail- I guess cause I wasn't looking. I see CSA sells a skeleton side rail also.

I think for costs im going to lean toward CSA (low version).

Note- I did see your Magnetic rail cover (in the classified section). I just have the side rail already but looks like a killer option for a pistol version owner. Are they solid?

Just got it to try it out.  No issues w/ it at 25 or 30 yards, which is all the further that I tested it.  Sits a little high, but other than that no major complaints.  They're no longer made, so rare.  Can't imagine more than a thousand or so were ever made, and probably a fraction of that.

The biggest difference between the RS and CSA mounts? You can actually buy the CSA ones. RS ones are sold out everywhere and they have been 'thinking about' making more for what, a year?

Isn't the weight difference between the two significant tho?

Yes.  Standard CSA side rail weighs nearly 1/2 lb or nearly 8 oz -- somewhere in the high 7s IIRC.  Skeletonized CSA weighs about 1/2 the standard, so mid to high 3 ozs.

DARS weighs less than 2oz, so you're looking at about 1/4 the weight of the standard CSA.

But the DARS is unobtanium at this point, correct?

Contact RS Regulate to find out where it is on their production schedule.  You might be also be able to find it on the secondary markets.  Put a WTB in the classifieds here for instance.
