As it says, I just bought a NIB 97B. With all new guns I buy I read the Owner's Manual before anything. Next comes the field strip, cleaning the factory gunk off, lubrication, and reassemble. Obviously shooting will be next!
According to the date code, 2019 made; I like the feel, fit, and finish; the thin aluminum grips are a nice touch as well.
Any quirks or issues I need to know about?

None at all. I love mine but went crazy adding upgrades. Only a few are beneficial. The rest was just for glitz. Keep close watch on your wallet. LOL

TNman - usually my Gun Bling $$ goes to the rescue of Colt 1911s that need love! It’s bad that I’m on first name basis with 3 of the Nation’s top 1911 smiths!

Someone asked me who my “top three” 1911 smiths are; so here they are (and some work I’ve had done):
David Sams, Sams Custom Gun Works: complete overhaul; refinish; and installation of gold dot front sight and Novak low profile rear sight of my Colt Combat Commander that included David’s 21 Step Reliability Checklist.
Chuck Warner, all the work by Chuck has been on Hi Powers including building an Inglis HP from a bag of parts and a matching frame and slide; and buying one of his custom made, limited to 30 guns Stainless P-35 Hi Power. He is know for earlier 1911 work.
Greg Derr, Derr Precision; Greg rebuilt and refinished a Colt .45 ACP Full-sized Pistol that included a .38 Super top end. Started with chromed slide, nickeled slide and frame into this combo:

Greg also refinished a Colt National Match frame that had been abused by someone using a flat tip screwdriver to remove the slide stop pin...

Make sure you locktite the loaded chamber indicator hex screw in place. If you loose that the gun won't function. 97B's are fantastic pistols...you will enjoy it!

I just picked up a new one too. I noticed the slide is a bit loose from side to side. Is that normal for these?

I would say no. Mine (2015) is tightly fit and very reliable. Never a malfunction.

My 2017 97B has a sloppy, my opinion, frame to slide fit. It will rattle when shaken. With that said it’s the most accurate of the thirteen pistols I own. It makes a bad shooter look great. By far my favorite.

Good news to know that loose doesn't mean bad on this model gun. It seems to shoot well and no malfunctions so far.

Quit upgrading your 1911s. You can start with any level 1911 and "improve" it. I have three custom built 1911s and I think "well maybe I could make one even better". Ask me how I know that this tactic is a near bottomless pit financially. Of course you can spend money and have something different, but is it better? Funds are better spent branching out to a new type of firearm.

97b is a great pistol , find I shoot it more than my 1911’s !

Are you being sarcastic about the gun not working if the loaded chamber indicator is missing?

from what i have read, the 97B NEEDS that tiny piece of metal, the spring loaded pin rides in.
meaning, you can lose the pin, but God help you if that tiny piece of black metal goes MIA....
which is why, you wanna check the tightness of that tiny little allen screw. mine was built in 2020, between January and June when i bought it. SOoooooo, they may have used Locktite on that tiny little allen screw. but, i still do not chance it, i put a small piece of black electrical tape over that allen screw, to at least hold it in place. i apply a new fresh piece of tape with every cleaning.
be VERY CAREFUL if and when you check the tightness of that allen screw, if it IS tight, you stand the chance of stripping it out with force.
ok, see that "square piece" of metal? you will also see the allen screw and the indicator pin..lose that square piece of metal, order up a new one with the indicator pin and spring, from CZ

you were not addressing me about being sarcastic. i entered the thread and explained why
and yes, from what i have read (cannot recall where) you need that square metal mounted in the gun for operation, if i can find wither the article or video, i will post it.
the oin and spring itself, should not be of any concern, over that piece of metal.

Lol, yeah the black plate (barrel stop) I have on my 97B. I was referring to the loaded chamber indicator pin not needed for the gun to be fired.

I know this is an older thread but “roggiedog’s” post reminds me of a story one of my former coworkers at CBP related to us. Dale was Army Airborne and when he was released from active duty remained status as a drilling reservist. He was sitting in a classroom at Ft Bragg when a grizzled old Master Sargent walked into the back of the classroom, drew a 1911A1 from its holster and like he was bowling, sent the pistol down the center aisle until where it crashed into the front cinderblock wall. Then he picked it up, holstered it, and gave his lecture on the 1911A1. After the lecture they trooped to the range where targets were already set up at 25 yards. Drawing the same 1911A1 that he had “thrown” in the classroom the erstwhile Master Sargent proceeded to put two magazines into the 10 ring!
I’ve shot one or two Military 1911A1s during my 30 year active duty military career; I shot a few like the one I mentioned; they wouldn’t likely win a National Championship but they’d work when needed!
