Folks, I would like to buy four mags for my CZ83 in .389 ACP. Does anyone have a good source for reasonably priced mags? Thanks so much in advance!
-
Any luck finding any legit ones which are not the fake "mfg CZ"?
-
the best option is to look for real surplus vz82 magazines (they are interchangeable with the 83 in 9x17 or 9x18)
real surplus mags will have the crossed swords marking
CZ-USA used to import commercial 82/83 magazines, but stopped carrying them a year or two back
-
I strongly CONCUR with Eastman. Don't waste time (like I did) trying to get aftermarket mags to work reliablly.
ONE "crossed sword" (or new OEM from CZ USA) mag is worth a bag full of anything else. Especially the "mfg CZ" mags...which I purchased 4 because they were such a good deal.
I tried to get them to work for months, even changing mag follower springs and tweeking the magazine "feed throat" dimensions. Never got more than two or four consecutive feeds. I finally swallowed my pride and threw them in the trash after flatening them with a hammer. I didn't want anyone accidentally finding them in my trash and attempting to use them.
The ammo alone that I wasted would have bought me a couple of the real CZ mags.

Good advice!

Living behind enemy lines I have to take what I can get. Luckily I was able to snag a pair of 10 round mags from CZ USA back when, but my new hobby has been to try to re-manufacture the crap "CZ-mfgr" mags to factory spec, with occasional success. Straightening and filing the feed lips to spec has helped so far. However, I do not EVER plan on depending on them in real life.

Those are the crappy ones I believe.
-
Yes, they are. Look for the seam down the back.
And overpriced too, I got mine for $20.

Knockoff crap. Seams are evident.

Hey gang. I haven't been on this forum in quite a while. I noticed this thread, and I have two CZ82 mags I'm willing to sell.
I bought a surplus CZ82 through Classic Firearms in 2013. I had to send it to a gunsmith once for repair, and then it developed another problem, so I mothballed it rather than throw more money at it.
One of these mags came from Classic Firearms in 2013, while the other I bought from Rogue Elite in CZ-USA packaging around 2016.
I took some photos and put them here.

I got a magazine from DK firearms, has the seam.
Fits a little tight, but think it will work. Have not shot yet.

You're going to have to completely remaufacture it (completely disassemble, clean up internals with a file and resize the body and feed lips to correct size and dimensions/contours) and do a complete lube job before it will even get to the "some FTFs and stovepipes" stage of "operation". They're junk. Ask me how I know...

Sorry, but I'm not finding them there. Do you have a product-specific link?
-
I had to search for a while, but I finally found the page. If I didn't live in a restricted state, I might order a couple. Not cheap tho - ~$40.

True, not cheap. But could be worse, could be a Sig Sauer! ;)
$10 more than the non-functional aftermarket products.

they look to be the real ones (from the pictures and the reviews).
they may be expensive for used mags, but they will work great
-
Just ordered a couple. I’ll report back if they’re the real McCoy or not.
-
The mags from Apex are genuine and seat properly; however the little crossed swords ?? mark has been drilled out. Don’t know why, but otherwise factory original. I’ll post pics shortly.

I have a couple of mags like that. Probably did that before selling them as surplus.

Hello everybody,
I was wondering if there was an update here.
I am stock with a CZ 83 (.380ACP) without mag.
Any help?
Thank you

So are the ones from gunpartscorp the good ones, or the "don't waste your time" ones? The price is certainly better than apex.
-
Assuming WYSIWYG look like the good ones.
-
Numrich Gun Parts is a quality sight. If not satisfied, they will provide a USPS return label.

the price (and lack of actual good pictures) is what concerns me about them
a lot of US dealers sell the crappy "mfg cz" magazines and claim them to be real factory CZ mags
-
The good ones are welded and have no seam line down the back.
-
I have used the magazines from Apex Gun Parts. Although they are used they work fine.
-
I periodically do searches for these, and found these today for 19.99:

I ordered two, and will report back when able.
-
Any word on these $20 mags from Classic Firearms? Lots of negative reviews on their site.
-
At $20 a pop, those have to be the crap Chinese knockoffs.
Stay far away or resign yourself to completely remanufacturing each of them to spec to get anything resembling functionality.
-
I bought mags for my cz 70 from tripple K and they worked well for my 70. They have them for the 82/83 but they are 48 dollars.
I have no personal experience with them.

I picked these up at the last gun show. When I first saw them I never thought they would be CZ 83 mags, and the dealer had no idea what they were for. What's interesting is that these also had the crossed swords dilled out. I also only paid $15 each for them - best deal I've gotten in a while.

Great find and great deal! Especially still in the original wrap. Action Arms Ltd was one of the importers of CZ products in the early 90s prior to the establishment of CZ-USA in the mid-90s.

I wonder why they drilled out the crossed swords?
-
I have the problem, where find real magazines that won’t fart.
-
I used to buy a lot of CZ OEM .32acp mags directly from CZ and none of them ever had a crossed sword on the mag.
-
Were the Czech "crossed swords" drilled out of some 82/83 magazines due to sensitive arms deals between the Czech Republic (or C-Slovakia) and any 'sanctioned' countries?
This could easily explain the attempt to conceal identifying marks.

I have vz82 mags where the crossed sword mark was drilled out. Probably done when the mags were officially retired and sold as surplus.
-
eastman: Roger the “drilled out” swords.
The mag which came with my 83 is the same.
If the GB seller had Not included any decent photo of the floor plate- I wouldn’t have bought the very pricy item to have a very reliable spare , for the club.
Apparently many sellers refuse to include photos which depict the Unwanted “cz mfg”.
-
... and they won't post the back view to show the nasty seam on the back of the fake mags.
