Title: Confused About BRNO Rifle
Post by: n-1911-TERRY on April 17, 2007, 10:10:23 PM
I keep hearing about BRNO CZ rifles. Everyone seems to think they are the best. Are the BRNO's still being manufactured and if they are, were are they available through here in the states? I'm looking for either a 22 or 17HMR. I own a VZ24 now, but it was made back in the late 30's. can anyone update me?

The Brno company is now closed and the closest thing you can get are the CZs. Brno never made a 17 HMR other than the 617 semi auto. This is the same as the 611 .22 magnum but in 17 HMR. CZ make several different models of the rimfire calibres. The Brnos are pretty good and I think they are much better than the CZs and the CZ's are good as well. The Brnos were not common in the US while you had the eastern block countries closed but they have become well known now. You still have people selling brand new Brnos over there that were made decades ago. Go for it youll love them.

Ive got the VZ 24s along with several others.

Go to this link and you will see some of my Brno rifles. p201.ezboard.com/fczechpi...ic&index=5 (http://p201.ezboard.com/fczechpistols82792frm6.showMessage?topicID=936.topic&index=5)
I have around 130 to 140 of them. The link is for centrefire so here are a couple of pics showing only some of my rimfire and a couple of handguns and shot guns. I have several others not shown as these photos are well out of date.

And a pic of some of the Czechs asleep against the wall.

Let me know if I can help with anything.

Will you adopt me and let me live in your gun safe?

BRNO's varied in (mainly) quality of finish.

Somewhere in the 70's there was a reduction in quality of metal finish (down to somewhere like the CZ's of today).

It is mainly the earlier BRNO's that are much sought after. They have proven to be totally reliable - only professional rabbit shooters wear out their BRNO's (and now CZ's) - so much so that (early) second hand BRNO's command a price similar to a new CZ 452 and are often purchased in preference to a new rifle (if their condition is "good" or better).

I am enclosing a close up of my BRNO Model 2's action and part of the barrel in which you can see the depth of the blueing and the polished surfaces. This is a 1967 example.  That is a CZ Magazine in the magazine well, BRNO magazines are all metal and closer to a flush fit.

Note: The surface of the action is not smooth and therefore looks "matte" but is still deeply blued. I think that the depth of blueing and level of metal finish can best be seen on the Iron sight block and on the trigger guard - I had a lot of difficulty getting the metal to NOT look dull in the photos.

I understand that the Model 1's and the Model 5's had smoothly polished actions.

PS: I don't have a wardrobe full of these to show off, just my little rifle to impress with. And can I be adopted too, Mr Dancz?

But if both you guys come and live with me I'll have too few guns to for myself.

By the way all my model fives have the same finish to the action as the model twos.

We would probably do the Cuckoo thing - one of us would have to go! (http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/devil.gif)

As regards too few rifles left to yourself - I don't care! Slather, slurp, drool.  (http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/roll.gif)

BRNO's, CZ's . . . . . . yummmmmmmm!

I would love to browse your collection in reality rather than just have "cyber sex" over the pictures.  Oops, need another tissue - to wipe the excess oil off the BRNO! (http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/embarassed.gif)

By the way, you have several of the "mythical" Model 5's?????? WOW! I have just read about their rarity (in one of the postings on this forum) so I am highly impressed.

Good luck with all your future collecting.
