This gun is very cool:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dr8Z-RVXNfU
But in addition to the frame milling which is for aesthetics on this gun, why not offer to complete checkering on the front and rear backstraps on the frame? The vertical lines are all but useless on the front and backstraps. Given the soft aluminum, it seems it would be easy to checker - all you need to do is add horizontal cuts. Vertical lines only are a chapter out of the early 80s.

While I think that the front slide and frame matching serrations look awesome, it makes me wonder if when cycle the slide using the front serrations if the frame serrations would catch your fingers and be an issue.

. I agree and Personally would not want to lessen strength of the frame rails but maybe this is fine.
But the worst feature of the frame is lack of back and front strap checkering.

I can tell you from personal experience, the front strap of a steel framed 75 is NOT thick enough to checker. Id be willing to wager the same holds true for the alloy frame compacts. Ever notice the models that do have checkering have a built up pad.
-
CZ Custom did it on the Atrox. I believe they started with a P-01. IIRC, credit for the pic belongs to Stuart.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201220/a14cf5e480f0be500ad5493023397ab6.jpg)

I talked with a higher volume gunsmith in the Southeast regarding the front strap. I did my rear back strap on my CZ TS myself and my checkering tool couldn't get around the inside curve and outside of making a custom tool, I was looking to have someone else do it. He basically echoes your comments and couldn't guarantee his work due to potential to cut through the material. Some have enough material to put some checkering on, but some to not. He said it varied more than he had thought (scrapped a customers frame). Anyway it's something to think about.

Evidently it CAN be done, and I don't know why more don't - understanding its not easy. ALL you are doing is cutting across the EXISTING cuts and no deeper. Vertical serrations look nice, but are pretty useless. Thanks Earl for the pic!

I don't know about useless.
My hand and brain tells me the P01 feels different (and better) than the CZ75 Compact. Every time I pick up one of the P01s I notice it. I like it (why I bought a second P01 Omega a few years back).
I've got some CZ75 Compacts, customized, pretty, machined for red dots, but the P01 I'd choose over any of those because it feels good in my hand.
Does it help with recoil more than a smooth frame? I don't know. The 9MM pistols don't seem to kick enough to feel a need to deal with it or improve it.
Then again, I've got the soft rubber CZ grips on all my metal framed CZs (except the TS .40) and I know those help my hand hold on to the pistol, too. We put skateboard tape on the frame of the satin nickel Compact till I got some rubber grips for it. No need of the skateboard tape after that.
I think they "cut" checkering on pistol frames with files. That aluminum the P01's use in the frame would mess up a file pretty quick. Not sure how hard it would be to remove the stuck aluminum from the steel file.

At the 9:30 mark, the guy in the video states that the "barrel crowning pushed all of the carbon, muzzle blast forward and has a very compensated pistol feel while shooting".
Am i just out of the loop or is he talking nonsense?

I trimmed a set of factory rubber grips to fit them on my Tac Sport .40

Does gas from the chamber recoiling get into a normal RMR mounted directly above the chamber? I see so many -07s with the rear iron sights mounted forward of the RMR...
-
Back to the thread. Guns recoil by making the muzzle move upward. Vertical serrations are almost useless in this. Horizontal do somewhat better. Checkering is best.
The P01 feels better in hand because of its well designed beavertail. It helps your hand get high comfortably. The compact doesn’t have this and while it feels good the p01 feels much better.
Rubber grips feel super in the gun room and range but when you have wet hands they are slicker than a babies butt with Vaseline. Well close.
It just makes no sense in 2020 to still only offer vertical serrations.
-
Whoa, not sure how I got a post intended for another thread into this one.
Now, to go find the RMR/P07 thread.
I do remember seeing a read box/text above my text box when I was typing about an unread post having made it into the thread before I hit the save/send/post button, but it didn't throw that one up for me to read and I thought that was kind of odd.
Oh well.

I had two of the steel framed P01 looking, CZ75 labeled/stamped, compacts. They didn't have the vertical lines in the frame but had the P01 like beavertail.
Didn't feel like a P01 to me without the lines.
Okay, I'm weird. I can feel the difference and my hand/brain like it.
Just like the newer P07/P09 triggers bite my trigger finger but the old really curved P07 DUTY trigger does not. I like the old triggers and have replaced the new trigger in my P09 .40 and will soon replace the newer trigger (with an old DUTY trigger) in my 9MM P07.
Part of the reason CZ makes so many variations is because so many people like something different. I like the P01 Omegas and would not buy a decocker only P01. Lots of other people prefer the older model over the Omegas. Good. They still like CZs.

But vertical lines are 80s. Time for Cz to get to this century.

I think we've covered this base before. CZ is in this century with the P10 line. If anyone thinks they are going to undertake major changes in the metal framed lines you probably will be disappointed.

In principle I agree. SF guns have in a marketing sense superceded DA/SA guns. However, this is not a major change. Glad to see CZC doing this work - just didn't make sense with folks putting beauty cuts in the frame and not checkering the straps.

I vote nonsense.
In my opinion barrel crowning looks cool and "finished". It can also remove any manufacturing or user induced damage the the muzzle rifling and potentially reduce future occurrence. I'm not a firearms engineer or gunsmith....just an engineer and garage gunsmith so take my comments for exactly that.

The frame is thicker in the middle, if you try and wrap the checking around into the sides it cuts through. Hence why its only done in the middle.

Not a major change? The frames are cast. . .I would think it a very major change.
-
“but its compact size and the reduced weight due to its forged alloy frame”. Not cast. Even so the lines feel machined, and cutting a set of horizontal lines in CnC shouldn’t be a big deal in 2020.

This thread has discussed both aluminum and steel frames, I was thinking steel at the moment. CZUB can't keep up with demand as is, I wouldn't expect them to add a step to production unless they absolutely had to.
-
True. But my point of the thread was based on:
1. ANR designs milling the frame at the rails for aesthetic reasons.
2. Didn’t ever see anyone do the straps which have some functionality.
Thanks for pointing out that CZC does this. Not sure why folks jumped into steel frames with no serrations.
The market is crazy. Things that did not even have a demand are hot. Ridiculous right now. Heck there were new P01s going for under 5 bills not that long ago.
