Title: Red Dot Mounting Options
Post by: Maynard on January 04, 2021, 08:38:34 AM
Hi guys, looking to add a red dot to one of my Kadets and don't recall seeing many Kadets with RDS sights. Has anyone had a Kadet milled for a RDS?

I've never milled one.  I have used a dovetail mount from Springer Precision or CGW and I have drilled and tapped the slide for a short piece of rail and used a tube type Ultradot on the kadet.  That is my favorite setup for the Kadet since the optics are so good on the tube type sight.  But it is large and heavy compared to the reflex type red dot like a Burris Fast Fire 3 or Holosun 507C.

Due to the curvature and width of the slide, you may have to mill it and tap for an adapter plate, and then mount the red dot of your choice to the adapter plate.

No matter how you do it, you will love it.   :) :)

I did not think about adding a rail. I'm going to see if anyone offers milling for one and if not, maybe go the rail route.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I checked into milling and was told there wasn't enough thickness to work with.

I'm thinking maybe just add the OR plate to the top of the slide, like I did with the short section of Picatinny rail.    You would have to drill and tap holes in the slide and in the plate, along the centerline of the plate and slide.  Just two screws would do it.

I'm going to take my slide to a local guy and see if this can be worked out.

Excellent idea, Joe.
