Title: Scope ring height for .22lr CZ 457 LRP Long Precision Rifle
Post by: momosbar on February 17, 2021, 12:00:38 PM
Hi guys,

I am going to buy a CZ 457 Long Precision Rifle together with an Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x56 scope. The scope has a tube diameter of 34 mm.

Can anybody tell me which minimum scope ring height is needed to fit that scope onto the CZ 457 LRP?
Alternatively, what is the height between Picatinny rail and barrel (so I can calculate it myself)?

Thanks you!  :)

The scope dimension that will drive how high you have to be is the diameter of the objective lens bell.  Athlon web-site probably has that information.  Obviously you cut that in half, subtract out 17mm (for the scope barrel dia) and add about a 1/4 inch.

Hope this helps.  Good luck on the project.

Thanks for the answer! You are totally right, you need to consider the complete diameter of the objective lens, not only the glass.

But the CZ 457 LRP Edition has the Picatinny rail mounted on a lifted position compared to the barrel. This means there is additional place for the scope to be mounted. It would be interesting to know how high the rail is mounted , so I can also take that measure into consideration. My goal is to have a clearance of about 1/4 inch between barrel and objective lens.

EDIT:
I am a retard. Simply measured and calculated the height between Picatinny and barrel based on a high resolution picture.

Conclusion:
Additional height needed from mounting rings: 5 mm (circa 1/5 inch) + safety distance.

Here is a ring height calculator.  If you know the dimensions you can plug them in.  It also has most of the more common scopes and rings already entered.

@Luvdog: Thanks for the calculator. Confirms my calculations. Would have spared me some minutes of math. On the other hand, I like doing the simple stuff...  ;D

I also directly contacted the CZ support and received following answer:
Quote
The distance between the barrel and the lower edge of the Picatinny rail is 3.39 mm and the distance between the barrel and the mounting groove of the rail is 8.49 mm. With this in mind, a 1" mount should be sufficent.
Hope this answer was for You helpful.

So my measurement based on an image to the height confirmed by the manufacturer only differs 0.51 mm.

After this official confirmation, I went crazy and simply bought Spuhr SR-4000 Rings (1" height).

All in all, I paid nearly twice the price for the scope and mounting rings compared to the CZ 457 LRP rifle. From what I've seen on Youtube, this rifle doesn't deserve any less. Waiting like a child for the deliveries :)

Thank all of you guys for the support and I wish you all the best! Stay healthy  :)

Yup... I have more money in the scope, rings and rail than the rifle cost
