Title: Just bought my first 83
Post by: Cachec on March 21, 2021, 09:00:39 PM
I've been wanting a 83 for years but never could find the "right one" until last night.  A listing on Gunbroker for New Old Stock Satin nickel 83 complete with all original paperwork, box and sales receipt from 2011.  I could not help myself and hit Buy Now as fast as I could.  Ended up paying $620 +shipping of course, I felt that was a awesome deal and cannot wait to get it.

I have a satin nickel CZ83 and I've wanted to sell it a couple times. Same thing happens though... I take it out and look at it and it always finds it's way back in my safe.

Also... being new to the CZ83 be forewarned about spare mags... avoid the ones with the seam down the back and mfg CZ on the baseplate.

You're quite welcome! I had to learn the hard way. I eventually "tuned" them with a hammer and they work fine now.

Sadly the gun came with a ban era mag (10 rounds limited)

Yes it is. I'd like to find a 82 to keep it company. I recently turned down a rough shape one on an auction site I wish I had gotten.

This comes with the 2 12rnd factory mags, I may look for more in the future. I don’t reload pistol, only rifle and have zero 380 rounds at the moment. I’ll find some, I’ll probably have to bleed for it though.

Oh yeah! Every time ammo gets scares I put all the .380acp up. I reload for 9mm, 40sw, 38/357, and 44mag.

Buy mags that are either CZ-USA in real CZ-USA packaging or mil-surp mags with the crossed swords stamped on them. The same mag works for both the 9x18mm vz82 and the .380 Auto CZ83.

The right side of the frame carries arsenal marks.
Above the trigger guard on the right side of the frame we see a Czechoslovakian Army acceptance mark. This shows two crossed swords plus the last two digits of the year of manufacture.
The Czech Army used crossed Roman swords as its symbol since their independence from Austria in 1919. The Czech Republic Army uses this symbol to this day on everything down to uniform buttons.
If the pistol underwent arsenal refurbishment, you will find a circle or oval with VOP or VOR to indicate the military repair service organization.

•  Barrel, visible through port in slide
•   Serial number.
•   Letter T inside a circle, a military testing mark.
CZ-83 handguns has desirable "she 90" arsenal markings and "crossed-swords" proof. This one was produced in 1993. and features a magazine that's also marked with the "crossed-swords."

Armorer's stamps:
This pistol is of army origin which were at the Czech armament.
1 - right side of the pistol. The frame over the slide.
a/ mark VOP or VOZ is an abbreviation of a military repair service company of firm. These marks are in a circle or in an oval.
b/ two crossed swords with two numbers. This is a military take over and the year of the take over is mentioned there. Barrel at the space at slide
c/ circle with marked letter T that is a military testing mark.
d/ production number
e/ mark of the government test with 2 numbers of the year of the test.

Interesting for sure. I’m familiar with CZ and BRNO markings as I own quite a few of them. This will not have military markings as it’s a 2011 Civilian production for CZ USA.

Still looking for one in 32 ACP.  Gave my brother one in 380 and his widow still uses it after 20 years.  Rock solid and accurate.  Wish they would import them again.

I'll second that. It seems the only way to get those knockoffs to work at all is to completely remanufacture them. I'm experimenting with that, but I have no idea how long any of the parts will stay in spec, since they seem to be made out of thin badly tempered metal.

That's a sharp looking specimen! I'd recommend a wood grip upgrade to complete the package.

Howdy from the Sacramento area.  Longtime CalGuns member, recent CZ addict, and new member of this forum.

Just picked up a new to me 83, born in 2011.  I'd never seen one before, and it was weird - the instant I saw it I knew I wanted it.  I am not disappointed in any way!

Picked up a holster that was recommended on this site from Holsteris out of Lithuania.  It fits great.

Only shot a couple rounds so far but I will be reloading for it so I will soon be putting it through its paces.

One item of note - the wooden grips rub on the mags preventing them from falling freely.  I'll be shaving off a little off the inside of each grip to make them flush w the frame in order to have the mags drop freely.

A couple pics of the pistol and holster are attached.

Cheers!

Congrats! A lot of after-market grips have that issue with sticky magazines. It doesn’t get mentioned much but for new owners, the CZ 82/83 are not considered as drop safe carried with hammer down in spite of the rebound hammer system. There is a old thread in this forum as well as other Czech language articles on that issue.
