Title: Trigger pull gauge - which one to get
Post by: Dan_69GTX on May 15, 2021, 09:02:39 AM
I currently have one of the cheaper (spring with a sliding scale) gauges.  I'd like to get a much better one.

Any recommendations on what to get or what to avoid?

Thanks!
Dan

lyman electronic trigger pull gauge here as well! Just make sure you store it for long periods of time with the batteries removed. also makes a great scale for weighing out lawn pesticide and fertilizer applications! so many lbs for 1000 sq. ft. use a 3 gal bucket with a tare weight of 12 oz. for measuring vessel.

Make it 4 in a row.  Just picked the Lyman up last week.  Much more consistent results.

Good luck.

I've had the Lyman pull gauge for well over a decade and it still just flat out works.  There is a technique to using it but it is very easy and repeatable.  Just make sure you aren't touching the trigger when you press the ready(?) button before taking the measurement.  It tares the load and you get inconsistent results.

Cheers,
Toby

So the answer is Lyman...or do it yourself for thousands.  Sad because I would not say I hate Lyman but I have had very bad experiences with them and their lack of customer service.  Still waiting about 5 years for a return phone call.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your experience with Lyman. I had nothing but good experiences with them. They quickly  replied to my email regarding the broken gasket on my Lyman rotary tumbler. They replaced it for free and gave me an extra cap and gasket too.

TOK - did you make that?!

What do you have into it - not including the laptop.

That is awesome!
I've done some Arduino projects years ago.
I'd like to submit another option. The crown royal bag and a bunch of 124 gn bullets. Cheap and works! I recently did all my trigger testing on a twitch stream using that method. I was surprised at how accurate it was, no break, add 10 bullets, no break add 10 more, break, calculate, write it down. A bit of error for gravity but I'll take it.

I think he's on this forum and posts quite a bit. He is a wealth of information.
