Americans continued to flood into gun shops nationwide in May 2021.
The month saw the second most sales of any May ever at more than 1.3 million, according to an industry analysis of FBI background check numbers released on Wednesday. The flood of new gun purchases puts May 2021 far ahead of any other May on record besides May 2020. The strong sales numbers mean 2021 is still on pace to break the all-time record for gun sales set just last year.

Let's hope our politicians have the insight to ponder the question of WHY this is happening, rather than trying to prevent it !

How many people can be left that don't already own a gun? This has been going on for YEARS!

No one knows, and that's a good thing.

There are certainly plenty of people out there that don't and won't own a gun and that's fine for them so long as they don't seek to deny MY RIGHT to own a gun. We can be sure though that there are enough guns in this country to arm every human being several times over.

So that was 1.3 million FFL sales. What about private sales? I bought 3 guns in May -only 2 went through an FFL. That means my gun purchases were undercounted by 33%. So the data could be undercounting the true number…it could closer to 1.7 million or even higher!

I'd say it's best that they can't track private sales and that's a good thing.

I'd imagine private, undocumented sales are huge in number as well

I would be very surprised if a lot of off books sales aren't happening, especially with people being worried what the government might be up to. Here in AZ private party sales are still legal, thankfully, and I know of a few guns that legally passed from one legal person to another without government involvement. Arizona takes the stand that if both parties are not prohibited possessors and the gun is legal, they don't care. As for the huge uptick in sales, this has been going on since the start of the plandemic, and show no signs of tapering off. At least some ammo and reloading components are starting to trickle back in.

Same here in Ohio.

The explanation for that is as simple as reading your username, or Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum 8)

Remember, the more ARs in circulation, the more it will be protected under "common use"
-
Well heck, I better go buy one. A fella needs to his part you know.
-
Why stop at just one?

I still need to get my Scorpion out to the range. Or make a friend who owns land. I have a spiffy hand crafted artisanal form 1 suppressor to try out. I bought the Scorpion as my world is going to heck gun.

Nice! Going to rebrand my workshop. ;D

I read recently that the number of U.S. firearms in civilian hands is nearing 400 million. We account for nearly 50% of civilian held guns in the world. Plus, a trillion rounds of ammunition. Well, more than that because I bought another 500 rounds today. :-)

Feeling awfully proud to be an American!

From one Texan to another, this made my heart swell with pride and my cheeks hurt from smiling. ;D

1,000,000,000,000 rounds that looks like a very big number to a certain prominent people in the news when it refers to rounds of ammunition but when it is dollars of our money to spend on frivolity it barely gets a bat of an eye..... funny how that works

There are a lot of things the “news” barely bags an eye at.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that is the number or total guns purchased, ie both new and used. Would be interested in how many new guns are sold each month

That amount is derived from the # of background checks performed. Not all used gun sales require a background check.

I went full 'Merica and picked up an AR. Ended up with the Radical. It had more of what I wanted.

I have a Radical in 300 blackout with 8” barrel and haven’t had any issues so far. I’ve done a few simple mods to it like a Law Tactical folding stock, better trigger, ELF Tactical speed safety, and a nickel boron BCG. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 to 800 rounds through it with zero failures except for one dud round.
-
Thanks for mentioning. I have heard both positive and negative about Radical. Seems that they have ironed out whatever issues they have had. Next on the list is a decent pair of back-up sights and then to take it to the range to do some pew pews. The CMMG .22 conversion kit is an attractive item. Would be nice to be able to not have to fret over the cost of ammo.
-
No doubt. CMMG makes some good stuff.

I personally have sold many a gun as well, that was never documented, except for a Bill of Sale with all of the legally required information, that was never Government documented.
