Title: I just love these rainy days
Post by: lewmed on June 29, 2021, 07:23:25 PM
Having nothing to do today and having plenty of clean unprimed and swaged 9mm brass ready to load I fired up the XL750 after lunch. I lost track of time for a couple hours and had loaded inspected and boxed 1500 rounds by a little after 3:00 does that ever happen to you ?  How many rounds of pistol ammo do most of you load in a loading session ? my wife used to tell me I was addicted to reloading.

I do my stuff in batches.

I'll resize a bunch of brass.  I'll flare the case mouths on a bunch of brass.  I'll prime a bunch of brass.  Not in the same day, usually, and store the brass temporarily in old coffee/mixed nut jugs till I'm ready to put powder and bullets in them.

When I'm ready to "load" them with powder/bullets I do that usually around 100 to 150 at a time (put the powder in 50 cases, examine powder levels with a small bright light, set that 50 aside and do 50 more.  Sometimes another 50 or 100 and then start to seat bullets.

I used to seat/crimp same step, same die but last year I bought some crimp dies (Lee) and added another step in my reloading.  Have not yet seen the groups tighten up more than before so that may not continue.  But it does slow me down some.

With pistol ammo, single stage press (or the Lee turret used like a single stage press) I've gotten 250 in an afternoon.  Not being an ammo burner  those 250 rounds will last a few range trips as I usually shoot more than one load and more than one pistol.  Sometimes more than one caliber.

I like to load in 1000 rd batches, check them in a hundo case gauge and put them up for future use. I wish I could get 10k or so ahead, but so far haven't been able to do it.

Unless I'm load testing, I load in 500 round batches... just in case company drops by !

I THINK about reloading each time I go to the Atlanta Arms site and see "out of stock" for 9mm 115 gr JHP Match Elite ammo.  In my dreams, I'm back to shooting 200 rounds/wk/gun.   :) :)

I usually reload in batches of 5-10k rounds since I shoot about 20-24k rounds a year. I do this since I do a two-pass processing and reloading using my Dillon 1100.  I go to three USPSA matches a month, 1 2 gun match and 1-2 live fire practice a week.

The older gentlemen I shoot with doesn’t reload and they gave me the ammo boxes for use with my reloads. It’s perfect and makes for easy counting. Having a Hundo also makes for easy checking of reloaded rounds.

Of course, it’s nice to be able to stash a generous mount of primers, bullets and powder during the best years after learning my lesson in 2012.

I bought a reloading kit just before I had my second son.  Never ended up using it as I couldn't spare the time.  Eventually I sold it to a buddy.

I use a Hornady LNL.  I like to reload 300-500 min, it makes it worth setting stuff up and pulling the handle.
We are talking about pistol rounds.

If we are talking rifle - not so many since it takes so much longer for me.  Wish I had a Dillon 1050 or 1100 for 223 rounds!

Processing and reloading .223 was the main reason I bought the 1100. Having the onboard trimmer made it so easy and enjoyable. No more pain on the fingers and hands trying Swage and trim .223 cases piece by piece.

I only load 200-300 at time, once a week. Just enough to replace what I shoot weekly. I always have 1000 or so on the shelf to rotate through.

I'd really like to get something like that and dedicate it to rifle.  Mostly 223 but also 300BO and 308.

Check out FastAndFriendlyBrass.com (https://fastandfriendlybrass.com/shop/) for their honey Badger trimmer setup. It uses a Bosch router mated with their adapter to mount either a .223/.300 blackout or .308 trim die.

I loaded 50 last night for the first time in months, having exhausted my primer stash many months ago...man, it felt good! But to answer the original question, I will rarely do over 100 at a time, with my single stage RCBS RS press. :) And yes, I am addicted to reloading too - dry spells are the PITS!
