Title: Nite Sites with a Light
Post by: mrcabinet on August 29, 2021, 09:54:52 PM
I'm putting together a night stand gun and am curious about tritium sights (never have had them). I already have an Olight w/laser that will go on it, but I'm wondering if night sights would be beneficial too. I'm envisioning low-light situations and wondering if f/o sights would illuminate enough with the weapon light. Obviously the laser will get me in the zone, but I don't want to depend on it 100%. Would night sights just be overkill, or a smart investment?

TIA for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

I upgraded my glock with truglo sites and I think the sight picture is better even in bright light. It's somewhat up to personal preference, you might have to spend some $$$ and experiment before you find what works for you.

Last year I had a middle of the night "event" that included presenting my P-07 with a light outside of my home. It was quite the learning experience. Aside from issues like readiness/alertness/adrenaline, it became immediately obvious to me that with the light on, the sights virtually disappeared. The sights in question were reasonably fresh Meprolight tritiums. At this point,  I'm firmly in the red dot sight camp for HD use. Even with an rds, you have to make certain you set the dot bright enough to overcome reflected light and eyes that haven't adjusted.
