Title: Fitting Custom wooden grips to PCR?
Post by: bczrx on October 03, 2021, 12:29:35 AM
Hello,

I recently picked up a set of beautiful turkish walnut wooden grips for my PCR. However, they have a slight 'warp' to them, with a little gap at the top of the grip. I'd say a gap of about 1/16" or so.

Just enough to flex, but not enough to catch on stuff.

The edge is pretty thin, so I don't feel I can sand/file the ends to square them up.

I was thinking of using AcraGlas stock bedding compound to create a permanent dark filler for that backside.

After I do this, I would then use Tru-Oil over them to seal all of it.

Ideally, wood would be removed to even the mating surfaces, but this would thin the front edge of the grip too much. If I left the front untouched and only did the back, it would cock the entire grip so that the front leading edge stood proud/up more than it does.

If I can't drop the entire grip evenly, it seems my idea would resolve the problem and, if I use the brown and black dyes properly, would not be very obvious.

What do you think?
