Title: Lost my CZC tactical rear sight set screw (P-01)
Post by: john seeley on October 05, 2021, 12:57:50 AM
Went to the range yesterday to zero the sights on my P01 and when I went to adjust the rear, I noticed the set screw was gone and the sight walked to the left! Couldn't find the screw. The set screw was tight, but still without loctite. Makes me think I fit the sight too loose even though I can't budge it with my fingers but some taps brought it back to center again. Looks like I need red loctite and maybe some peening on the bottom of the sight.

Does a set screw really keep the sight secure from walking? I wouldn't think so if the sight is properly fitted.

Looking for a replacement grub screw but it looks like CZC doesn't sell them. I emailed them anyway. Anyone know where I can find one or what size is it? Tried the factory set screw but the threads are different. I found this one, but it's probably not the right one. https://czcustom.com/slide-racker-screw-ts-czechmate.html Thx.

No idea on the size of the screw but your best bet is to call CZC rather than wait on the email to be answered. Even though the sight is not super tight in the dovetail if you Loctite the set screw once it's zeroed it absolutely will stay in place.

john, once you have your sight adjusted remove the set screw and put a dab or two of  loctite in the scew hole and then slowly turn the screw back in and tighten it. you can also put a drop on all four corners were the sight and the dovetail meet and then wipe the excess off. I fit both my sights on the easy side for installation because i do not have a sight pusher and wondered if they would move? by forcing some blue loctite under the sight base and applying a dab to all four corners it has stayed in place.

Just slip a stainless shim under the sight when you push it into the dovetail.

Thanks for everyone's help. Great community. I'll try the loctite in the screw hole first. I think that'll do it. Can you put loctite in the hole and have it spread via capillary action or it doesn't work that way? (EDIT: I see, that's why mkd said to turn the screw slowly to force the loctite in the hole to spread underneath?) Does center punch peening (sight bottom) hold in the long run? Never worked with shims.

I was hoping I forgot to put in the set screw and looked everywhere around the house. Almost positive it popped out at the range. I'll call CZC when they open at 10AM MT. Thx again.

IM'd Stu at CZC.  He responded right away. He's looking into it.

FYI-  Loctite green (#290) is used for post assembly locking, what it is made for due to its wicking characteristic.
Purple, blue or red is used during assembly.

Ah... thanks. And it looks like green (medium-to-high-strength) is a little stronger than blue (medium-strength).

As I'm looking up green loctite, I see there's a few different numbers for green. 290, 638, 680, 601 etc. Talk about confusion. I guess I'll stick with 290 like you mentioned.

john, when you fill the threaded hole with the blue and run the screw down the pressure created under the screw  forces the blue out the bottom of the hole and in the gapbetween slide cut and base of sight. take it slowly as you turn the screw down.

Thanks for confirming.

You can get them at the hardware store bolt and nut section. Bring your sight to make sure the threads match. Did that when I drilled and taped my sight for a p01

Not locally.... not at Home Depot or Lowes at least. Yes. I thought about that to get the right size. Ebay and www.mcmaster.com has them. I'm sure there's other sources too, but I stopped looking when Stuart at CZC said he was able to locate a couple to mail to me. Very nice gesture!
