Title: CZ/CGW 97B"E" at 200 yards on Halloween, it IS possible afterall, video
Post by: Joe L on October 31, 2021, 04:57:13 PM
I spent the last 3 days with the 9mm plastic guns so I was ready for a heavy steel .45 bullseye match pistol session!  Good conditions and I found enough stick and clamps to make an aim point 7-1/2 feet above the center of a 24" wide target.  And very little wind.  That is key (for me) when shooting any pistol caliber at 200 yards.

It is always good to get to shoot the 97B"E" at any distance, and I've done so a bunch out to 100 yards, but today was the first time I've tried it at 200 yards.  This went well for the first 30 rounds or so, then my eyes fot a little fatigued and I pretty much wasted 30 rounds after that.  But the first 30 or so were spectacular, in my opinion.

I just don't have a bad day when shooting the B"E".  Never.

Great shooting as usual.
How did you determine a 7-1/2" aim point?

Great shooting as usual.
How did you determine a 7-1/2" aim point?

7-1/2 feet aim point=iphone ballistics calculator for 185 gr JHP and 830 fps muzzle velocity at 200 yards in 6000 ft altitude density air.  I think the muzzle velocity must be a little lower than that for the AA ammo, as I had to hold just a little over 8 feet to center the group on the target sheet.

Way to go Joe!  Just about a 1 story house holdover  ;D

It was an interesting experiment that turned out well.  When I actually got the aim point that high and stood back and looked at it, all I could think of was "I better hurry up.  If the wind comes up, I'm not going to be able to get any shots in the lead catcher."  When one sees the aim point twice as high above the target as I routinely use for 9mm, it kinda shakes your confidence level, to say the least.  When I drove out there and saw I had 5 hits on the paper, I relaxed a little.

I had the similar fears when I shot the .45 in the 20 mph crosswind last fall--this may not turn out well.  But, I was able to estimate the wind close enough and use the ballistics calculator to figure out what the windage hold needed to be to get a lot of hits on the target in spite of the windy conditions.

Its always good to try something new and have the cameras rolling when you do.  The worst that can happen is that it doesn't work out but you learn what NOT to do next time, and even that is progress.  The best that can happen is that the calculations work out in the field and you get some good shots on video from the start.  And the camera gear doesn't get blown over.

Every time I try something new with the 97B"E", it works out just fine.  There is a lesson there.

It's fun when your skills succed at shooting at a target when the math says you shouldn't really expect it to work.   8)

Earlier this spring i was shooting at a 12" wide by 20" tall
Steel Human Torso Plate at 550 yds using 200 gr subsonic .308 rifle ammo and a suppressor.  Luckily, it was a perfect weather day.

The calculator said I had to adjust 85 moa up on the scope.  I could adjust to 50 moa and then had to hold up the remaining 35 using the reticle.  The bullet trajectory maxed out at about 14 ft above the line of sight between me and the center of the target.

I hit somewhere on the target 8 out of 20 times.  When the first hit rang the steel I jumped up and cheered!

If you can throw a rock high enough, you can hit anything!
