A buddy of mine carries a P10C and neglected the cleaning and lubrication needs during mowing season. He went to eject the mag and the mag release was locked solid. He eventually got the mag out but the gun was inop since now a mag would not lock.
I took a look and here's what I found inside. The mag catch plunger is rust welded into the mag catch. I'll order new parts and get it running again but thought I would share what happens when you sweat soak a dry gun.

How long did he go without maintenance?

About 2 to 3 months I think. I don't think it ever occurred to him to lube that particular spot though
-
I wonder what keeps the striker, striker spring, striker return spring, striker block and spring from corroding/seizing up?
If someone says stainless doesn't rust, well, not as bad/quick at regular steel, but it does.
And, why don't they make the magazine release, and spring out of stainless?
I routinely field strip, clean/wipe off and oil my carry guns. I'm a compulsive over oiler and just let the excess go where ever it ends up (clothes, hands, holster, air). I hate rust.

I tend to do the same. I don’t like a dry gun
-
JMHO, I don't think that gun was ever lubed or oiled. 2-3 months that should not occur .Looks like typical CZ pins that need to be polished.
-
bleep it. Rust/Corrosion like that has never happened to me. Either in police or combat environments where bleep gets wet and dirty now and then before you get around to cleaning or lubing a sidearm. And I have been shooting pistols (including CZ75s) for DECADES..
I admit that I keep my duty pistols pretty wet with oil, and also use red grease on almost everything that slides.
Something is amiss here.

Go back and read the entire content of the opening post. You carry a gun through the hottest time of the year in an outdoor environment and soak it in salt laden sweat from your body and this is EXACTLY what will happen. If you are not maintaining the cleanliness and lubrication of the guns you carry on a daily basis at least every 2 weeks you are destined to fail. If you sweat enough to wet your holster and gun more often is needed. This is a tool you may need to trust your life to and it deserves every respect possible.

While the gun got lubed in the usual spots, I don't think he ever thought to lube that particular spot. To be honest, I don't know if I normally pull the mag catch out for lube regularly. I sure will going forward though.
-
You should be able to drop some oil on the mag catch with the slide off. Even dripping some oil on it from the outside and working the catch in and out will work oil into it.

That's it, right there. Easy to do either way.

I’ve probably not had issues due to running my guns on the wet side. That area tends to get soaked with Hoppes #9 when cleaning as well.
I think that a lot of folks buy into the ‘striker fired guns need little lube and less cleaning’ mindset. Anything that gets wet and especially anything that gets sweat soaked should see frequent cleaning and lube

Uuuuuuuh, DEFINITELY more to that story.
Remember, THE SAFE BET IS TO KEEP IT WET!!! ;D 8) And yes I mean oil, not water or sweat. ;D
Dang, did I just spit some lyrics? ;D

The older folks around home used to say:
He's a poet
You wouldn't know it
But his feet show it
They're longfellows.
Now, something I just ran across today (well, seen it before but this post got me to checking before I went outside) is your back up magazines.
I carry mine in Safariland double mag. pouches on the thigh panel of the drop holster rigs I open carry with around home. All but a small part of the magazine is covered but I work around outside with the pistol and magazines on my right thigh. Tilted the rig up, looked close and the mags. and the part I could see was just nasty. Popped the snaps, pulled the mags out and they were dusty/dirty all the way to the feed lips (P07 9MM mags.) Didn't think to take pictures.
When I went out this afternoon I wore short pants and the rig on those is for the M&P 9MM. Mags looked the same and that time I got some pictures. Just haven't transferred them to the laptop yet.
I wiped them off but I'm kind of thinking I ought to unload them, disassemble them and clean them out good.

I don't think I've ever carried a gun where I sweated so much that I soaked my holster.😲
I don't carry my gun when I do yard work in the summer heat.

I field stripped and cleaned/lubed my P07 9MM that gets carried open (magazines, too) around my yard/garage, etc. while I was outside this afternoon.
Pistol was gritty. Pulling the trigger I could feel it and hear it. Brushed and lubed till the noise/feel went away. I emptied and disassembled the magazine from the pistol and the darn thing was pretty clean. Wiped it out, wiped down the spring, put it back together and loaded it up.
Then I pulled the two out of the double mag. pouch and they were just nasty inside. Took several passes with a dry cloth to get all the sand/grit out of them. And I had to wipe down the rounds removed the magazines to get the dirt off them, too. Put it all back together and put my stuff away.
The M&P is next. Most likely putting the M&P to sleep in the safe. Even the 5" PC slide/ported barrel won't shoot like my P07/P09 pistols. Last field strip, cleaning and oiling.
The pistol and the magazines are a system. Take care of the whole system.

The point is this guy carried his gun and exposed it to severe body sweat. Many people who carry iwb will soak a holster in hot weather which means they need to be even more dilligent in their cleaning and maintenance. I used to carry iwb and quit carrying that way for a couple reasons but not the least of which was that in the summer heat I'm a heavy sweater and the back of my holster would become pretty wet soaking through enough to dampen my gun. I went to owb on my hip at 3-4:30 position and solved that issuee.
-
I switch to owb for the same reason.
Plus I find it more comfortable.
-
Your buddy needs to go to the range more often.

I've seen a similar photo in the past. Several years ago on Reddit, a guy posted a photo of the top of his mag catch plug in the frame of his P-07, and it was rusted to the point that it was crumbling. If I remember correctly, he worked construction on the Texas gulf coast and so would have been sweating a lot on his gun as well. Although he swore that he had tried multiple kinds of lube on it to stop the progression of the rust, but that it hadn't worked. Then in typical Reddit fashion some mod started talking about how internal parts in Glocks never rust and CZ should get into the 21st century with their metallurgy or whatever.
Personally in my P-07's I have never had any rust issues at all, not in the bore, slide, frame, nowhere. I have profusely sweated on them on some occasions, but not on a regular basis. As mentioned, if you carry IWB in the summer heat, doing yardwork or something similar, you can expect to soak your holster and your gun. If you are carrying in a leather or leather-backed hybrid holster, then it is also going to absorb a lot of that sweat. I also had this issue with a Black Arch Protos-M hybrid which has a synthetic material that is supposed to wick sweat and allow it to evaporate, but still left a puddle of absorbed sweat after a day of working in the outdoor heat. So when I carry in the heat where I will sweat profusely, I prefer to carry in a full Kydex OWB holster to avoid that. If I was using a leather holster in those conditions I'd probably treat it with Sno Seal or Obenauf's paste to partially waterproof it with beeswax, at least on the side that was against my body. That is still not a 100% solution though, with leather being so porous.
I don't carry my guns in a lubed condition I'd call "wet" because I don't want lube migrating out of the gun onto my clothing. Instead what I do is clean my guns bone dry with some combination of solvents like 99.9% isopropyl alcohol, acetone, brake cleaner, electronics cleaner, canned gun scrubber, etc. depending on whether I'm strictly cleaning metal or also exposing polymer parts. Then metal parts get treated with either Eezox or Hornady Oneshot with Dynaglide dry lube / protectant. Then friction-bearing surfaces get a small dab of Slip 2000 EWG. I've used a lot of different cleaners, lubes, CLP's, protectants, etc. over the years but these are what I finally settled on. In practice, my polymer pistol frames get wiped about 90-95% clean with patch cloths and 99.9% IPA, then they get sprayed out with electronics cleaner or gun scrubber, then sprayed out again with Hornady Oneshot which leaves behind a coat of Dynaglide dry lube and protectant, then the rails, hammer / sear interface, trigger bar contact points, etc. all get a very light dab of the Slip 2000 grease applied with small foam swabs. I don't go out of my way to lube the mag catch parts but they do get hit with the Hornady dry lube as part of the overall process. When I have my frame detail stripped I will also remove the mag catch to clean, inspect, and re-lube the spring, pin, etc. while I'm in there.
