Title: 1st CZ, Interesting VZ70 / 50 combination?
Post by: Artyldr01 on December 11, 2021, 05:52:33 PM
Hello,

New member and my first CZ is on layaway. It is a surplus  VZ 70 but appears to have a VZ50 frame since the Backstrom does not have the enhanced "beaver tail." It does appear to have the 70s modification around the trigger.  It also has thr older grip panels.. The upper is clearly VZ 70. It appears to have been made or modified in 1972. It is SN: J71312.

Any information or help on this examples "story" is appreciated!

I have both a VZ50 and a VZ70.

VZ50 is on the left.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211212/007c74a6d86a403b0144a8e2fbae2514.jpg)

My VZ50 is dated 1980 and the VZ70 is dated 1972.
So production of both appear to have been overlapped.

Berger's Know Your Czechoslovakian Handguns only has one page of text for the pair, saying that many were produced and records aren't consistent.
