Title: S&W 48-2
Post by: Classic12 on December 21, 2021, 11:05:54 AM
I have a running WTB ad for ammo, many people stopped shooting, sold the gun and still have the ammo. I get a lot of contacts and buy it at very interesting conditions. Mostly ammo I use and have guns for, but occasionally other calibers too, especially when it’s very cheap.

So in February I got this lot of .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, 700 rounds, cheaper than new .22 lr.

Now I found the perfect gun for it. Very good condition S&W 48-2, 6 inch, from 1974 I believe. Paid $ 860, which is a bit more than I would have liked, but it’s a rare bird around here and condition is really nice. Previous owner said he never fired it.

My hands are too large for those grips (Magnas ?), and this guy was selling two pairs of grips on the internet, expensive, he wanted $ 330 for both, but they’ve been online forever. I made him an offer and we settled on $ 240.

Removed the original ones. Black washers, numbered to the gun. I’ll keep those preciously.

One pair is rosewood NOS, the other one looks like walnut. That’s the one I used

for what you get over there those rare birds are in really nice condition for the most part.

to me, having to spend a bit more to get something nice, if thats what you want is low hanging fruit.

sometimes finding something is the biggest challenge, condition and price will be the next issue.

Nice score on the 48, and an excellent score on the grips!

My father had one with a 8 3/8 inch barrel.  Deadly on jack rabbits.  He never did fine a holster to fit it.  Wish it was still in the family.

Nice pistol.  Wish you the best with it.

Smith & Wesson does make best looking classic revolver in my opinion. That pistol is just downright pretty!
