Title: CZ457 extraction problems
Post by: Todda on February 04, 2022, 02:50:20 PM
I recently purchased a new CZ457 .17HRM and I'm having problems with fired rounds not extracting.  Unfired rounds will cycle just fine, but after firing the same rounds I have some that fail to extract.  The cases seem to expand after firing and sit tight in the chamber.  Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?

Federal, Hornady and CCI all have the same problem.  I believe I found my problem today.  I have another CZ457 22lr and I tested it's bolt today compared to my .17hmr bolt.  The bolt from my .22 will extract the .17hmr rounds with no issues.  I even tested the rounds that jammed in my .17.  I gently reinserted them in the .17 and using it's original bolt, they won't extract.  Using the bolt from my .22lr 457, they extract just fine.  So, it's something with the bolt.  The extractors look fine and I have a feeling it's the spring holding them.

Ok, I had the exact problem you described with a BuckMark and I was using Norma Tac22. I had to manually pull every cartridge out and it felt tight, however any other brand would fire and extract with no issues at all. I'm thinking about a CZ 457 just to use up the 450 rounds of Tac22 I have left  ;D.

Clean your bolt really good, then take a close look at the extractor for a burr or anything that might keep it from grabbing the spent case and extracting it.  Compare it to your other bolt for the issue. Some new gums have a nick or some small imperfection that might cause your problem.
