LGS received this rifle. I liked it and we agreed on $ 1620, including several magazines. Now waiting for the permit
“In November 1956, however, West Germany ordered 100,000 additional FALs, designated the G1, for the army. FN made the rifles between April 1957 and May 1958. The G1 user modifications included light metal handguards and an integral folding bipod, similarly to the Austrian version.
The Germans were satisfied with the FAL and wished to produce it under license. The Belgians, however, refused. (Wikipedia)”. Hence the HK G3.

Interesting, I know nothing about them. Good luck with it :)
-
congrats on another nice toy....
-
Beautiful example! I have a special place in my heart for the fal. I've owned several. Great weapon platform.
-
Schweet, but heavy - it's its own workout program (says the guy with an 805 pistol!)My old L1A1 was a workout to tote!
-
It's a beauty, Clark. Why the permit? Is this full-auto?
-
Great rifle and a great price, though prices there are different then here in USA. If that rifle was bought here in USA, it would go for multiple times that amount.
I assembled a STG58 from an unissued parts kit and a DSA receiver in the mid 1990s. Looked very similar to yours. The STG had plastic furniture and a different flash hider. Think I spent about $700 back then to build it myself. I couldn’t even think about buying a FN FAL way too much $$$$.
Back then it was affordable to shoot it. I could buy surplus 7.62 for $12 per 100.
I see your selector is the semi auto version. Is the rifle full auto with a semi auto selector installed? Or were they issued semi auto?
Either way nice find. The more you post the more I want to move.

Very nice rifle, sir! Always wanted an FAL, but every time I had money none were to be had. As soon as I was broke - they were everywhere. Can you post some shooting photos when you get that fine old warhorse out to the range?

I suspect it’s lighter than the Swiss Stgw 57

Who’s Clark ?
Most guns require a permit from the local bureau of arms here in Switzerland. Regular permit for semi autos / revolvers / lever and pump actions (bolt actions are exempted) and special permit for full auto weapons. This is an ex full auto converted to semi auto

Switzerland what a beautiful country :) I had the pleasure to visit a couple of years ago. I always tell people its sooooo beautiful and very organized clean and respectful people.

The internet gets it wrong on the FAL.
They can be accurate. The trigger is just fine. The recoil isn't any worse than an M1 or M1A. It's not as heavy as my M1A.
Mine is only a sample of one, but that one goes opposite to conventional internet wisdom/comments.

“It’s a beauty Clark” is a quote from a movie. National Lampoon’s Vacation
I don’t know your laws there so ignore me if it would not be legal……… I don’t know if you can legally restore it.
If it was a full auto FAL and still has the full auto ejector block in the upper receiver, it would be less then a 5 minute job to convert it back.(can’t remember either 3-4 parts) Maybe as easy as a full auto selector lever to replace the semi auto selector you currently have if the other parts are still in it.
When I bought my parts kit in the 1990s it came with all the full auto parts. Not legal in the USA to build a new civilian full auto, so I threw them out before buying the receiver. Even owning the parts while owning the rifle can get you arrested here for “constructive intent”.

Ok, saw that movie, a long long time ago.
I could maybe convert it back and request a new special permit for full auto weapons. Not sure it’s worth the trouble though. I have another full auto toy in the same caliber

What numbnoo sez otherwise - the FAL is a great rifle, one of the greatest post-war rifles there is!!!
-
Beautiful find! I have always been intrigued with the FAL, but do not own one and know nothing about them. Would love to fire one some day.

Nice!
