Title: cz 527 22 hornet bullet size
Post by: bikes on April 23, 2022, 01:04:08 PM
my 527 is serial number 575xx and I want to know if mine is for the 22 hornet .223 bullet or the .224 bullet. I reloaded with the Hornady 35 gr vmax .224 and there is a very slight bulge in the case throat at the base of the bullet and the fired casing is sometimes hard to extract. It shoots very well with this loading of 12.5 gr lil gun. No sign of over pressure. Thanks for any help, Tom

I've not personally measured the CZ 527 Hornet bore. But according to Calhoon Rifles the bores are .223 diameter and 1-16 twist. I've always used the Hornady 45 grain .224 diameter bullets though unless they were unavailable. Back during the last great component shortage I used some of the .223 diameter ones and didn't really notice any difference. My two Hornet 527's get a Winchester case full of Lil'Gun (about 13.0-13.1 grains) and the CCI small rifle primers all topped by the 45 grain Hornady's. No extraction problems.

Thanks for the response. I have read that older 527's had .223 bores and the newer .224? Is mine old or newer?

Is there a serial number prefix? Such a A575XX or B575XX, I believe that CZ is up to prefix F. Also on the right front receiver ring there should be a two digit date code. For instants 99 would equal 1999 and 17 would be 2017 and so on as the year of manufacture. If no serial number prefix I'm betting somewhere around 2002 or before. If a .223 or .224 bore either is a pretty nice rifle.

There is no serial # prefix and ring has "93" so made in 1993. Sounds like it is older and .223 bbl ?  Thank you.
