Title: Removing recoil spring from guide rod 75B
Post by: Davehb on June 09, 2022, 10:23:53 PM
Have a new 75B Omega.
Been looking at recoil springs for calibration, and haven’t seen any mention of recoil springs being smaller on one end.
This one small enough it locks down tight on the guide rod. Takes a bit to wedge it off.
Are the Wolff springs made to lock onto the guide rod like the original?
Is it ok to use one that doesn’t?

Yes, it's ok.

It's ok. Many designs don't even really need the guide rod, it's largely to make taking the spring in and out easier.

Some 1911 springs are like that.  Tight on the guide rod.

Spin it the same direction it's wound as you pull it off the guide rod and that should help is loosen up on the rod.  Works on my 1911's.

In the Army I was told it was designed that way (1911's) to help keep from dropping the guide rod if you picked it up by the spring.

I had to wedge it off. Took a bit and several passes around it to get it off.
Way too tight to twist it off. Would have ruined it.

The last 3-4 coils on that end have a funnel shape almost like a dampening coil (funnel shaped) but not really enough to provide that effect (I don’t think [emoji848])
