Title: 457 Youth Conversion
Post by: royfrombigd on October 07, 2022, 08:14:21 AM
Hi all.  My boys have pretty outgrown their youth model 457 and I was wondering if anyone here has converted these to adult size by purchasing a full size stock and/or a longer barrel?  Seems like the action would be the same, but wanted to check prior to purchasing this.  Intersted in a longer barrel as well, but might keep same barrel and put a silencer on it.  Thanks all.

I was just looking at the CZ website for the 20" Varmint barrel setup for the 457. Unfortunately out of stock, but only $190.

And there are a lot of options out there for chassis.  I put my son's 457 Varmint in an XLR Element 3.0 chassis and it's shooter.

Your 457 rifles action should fit any other 457 stock. The possible problems occur around the barrel profiles. If you try and fit a heavy (fat) varmint profile barrel into a sporter stock designed around a slimmer barrel, it won't fit along the barrel. When fitting the slimmer barreled action into say a varmint stock they drop right in but there is a small amount of space (gap) on either side of the barrel.  The youth/scout rifles seem to have the lighter tapered sporter barrel profile. You could always pick up both a new stock and the appropriate barrel as a two fur.

Don’t buy a barrel until you shoot the 16” in a full size stock. It’s a great size for a field gun! You don’t lose meaningful velocity and gain a very fast handling gun. It’s just about my favorite CZ rimfire rifle.

Hey all, thanks for all the replies.  I looked at my sons rifle and see it’s actually a 452 scout.  Looks exactly like the 457.  I actually did find a pretty nice Boyd’s stock on EBay.  Sounds like it will work with a couple of adjustments.  I am interested in a longer bull barrel, but will try the shorter one like suggested.

The 452 Scout didn’t come with a threaded barrel. Someone might have threaded and moved the sight back. That’s what I was going to do but found a factory 16” threaded. FYI it’s not feasible to swap barrels with a 452.

Unlike the CZ 455 and 457 rifles the CZ 452's don't have easily swapped barrels. The 452's require unscrewing them from the receivers except the 17 MK II 452 rifles which are pinned.

Makes sense as I don’t see any on sale anywhere.  I really appreciate the information, I’ll see about threading the factory barrel and eventually adding a silence.  Thanks.

I just bought my only, so far, grandson a 457 youth for his 1st birthday because it can be upgraded later. The hard part is waiting till he can go shoot with me.
