Title: Springfield 9P LSP Rear Sight
Post by: EddieB on December 01, 2022, 09:45:38 PM
I recently purchased a 9P LSP and while cleaning it noticed that the rear sight appears to be damaged.  It looks like a U notch at the back of the sight has been brokern on the left side.

Can this peice be removed and duplicated by a gunsmith?
Do any of the other parts appear damaged?
Any idea where to get replacement springs?

An finally, this is supposed to be an adjustable sight, windage and height?  I don't want to start working the screw and have no idea how to get it back to the current configuration.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Great news.  Do you know how it is removed?  Undoing the screw in the center?

Do all the other parts of the sight look like they are in good working condition?

Thanks

That Rear Sight is not standard and it looks like some one Drilled and Tapped a set screw for it.
That screw normally is not there and all fixed sights on Tanfoglio derivative Pistols, such as the Springfield P9's have a friction fit Rear Sight.
I would try to get a Springfield P9/ EAA Witness Rear Sight from Numrich Arms/Gun Parts Corp or some other online Gun Parts House.
You can even try ebay,

Found what looks like an original, good shape image of what the sight should look like.  Looks like the current sight (my sight) has a lot of damage to it.  I removed my sight and am soaking it in some Kroil to see if I can separate the parts.

I had a sight like that on a Tanfoglio 9mm once.  It did not screw adjust for windage....only elevation.  You had to drive it left or right with a punch and hammer....carefully, to get it set for proper windage, then leave it alone.  Up and down adjustments were made with the screw.  So that looks exactly like an older factory sight from the early 1990's.  I wish all the Tanfo's had come from the factory with that sight because some of my other guns shot low.

Thanks for the info.

Once I removed the screw there appeared to be what looked like a little plunger, but it wasn't moving, so I soaked it in Kroil.  I think the part that should move up and down might be to damaged to allow it "sliding" out.

If you see one of these let me know, I would love to purchase one to replace this one.  Looks like a very simple solution to the problem of having elevation adjustment on the rear sight.

I have come up with a solution!!!!, might not be perfect, but it works.

I ended up using a rear sight "TANFOGLIO EAA WITNESS / JERICHO - REAR ADJUSTABLE  SIGHT - WHITE DOT" SKU TR90TA30.

There are 3 different versions, blacked out, white dot and a U.  Seems to work great.  Installed the sight attempting to make sure that it was installed directly in the center.  Went out shooting, didn't require any adjustment other then one click down for elevation.  Does not look stock, and it is exspensive, but it works and I can take the gun out shooting.  If anyone wants to see pics of the gun with the sight installed, just ask.

Thanks for all the input from everyone.

What you show is nearly identical to the LPA sight I put on my Springfield many years ago.
What is your front sight like? Is it dovetail or part of the slide? Are you planning any changes there?

It is milled into the slide, no changes planned there.  Ideally I would like to get an original rear sight, but I am glade this one works and I can shoot the gun.
