I've been wanting one of these for some time but I missed out on the surplus imports that were in good condition and I didn't want any of the beat up ones that seem to be available these last few years. I was scanning the local gun classified site and a pristine 83 popped up the other day in .380, so I jumped on it. I had heard that the triggers were very good but I had no idea how good. This little gun is a new favorite and I'll be getting out to the range on Saturday to do a little plinking.

Nice! They're a fun little gun. Really underrated IMO.

It seems like it will be a lot of fun to shoot. I want to get some different grip panels, any suggestions on where to look for them?

Depends on what you want. If you want a set of original black plastic try Apex Gun Parts or Numrich
Marschal’s for wood
Check Amazon and Ebay
Sweet looking pistol. Good luck with your hunt.

Thanks, but I was thinking more along the lines of black ebony or something similar. I think it's a classic pistol like CZ 75s & Hi Powers and one of the things I like about these kind of pistols is the ability to change the grip panels to add a little spice.

I found a company (www.marschalgrips.com) that makes some nice looking grips for various models and I really like the set pictured below. Not too fancy for the style of pistol, but good looking grips. I don't know if I like the finger grooves for feel, but I like them for looks. I may just go with grips with no grooves.

I don’t usually like finger grooves but for the CZ 83, that particular Marschal option with the finger grooves and thumb rest are my favorite grips for the CZ 83. Klinsky (far left) from the Czech Republic makes wooden options although the ordering process was not a simple step of paying on the website but being contacted by email from the shop for payment options. That was several years ago though. For me, the Grips4U grips (middle) have an additional contour at the bottom the grip that sometimes feel like a sharp corner to me. Btw - The two grips with the Z inside barrel grooves logo is that for Zbrojovka Brno and had nothing to do with the CZ82/83.
Prestige Grips offers CF grips. An American who operates out of the Philippines.

This CZ 83 in .380 is one of my favorites. I dressed it up with a set of grips4u grips. Bought it years ago from an old Ganders store for $200 with no mags. At the time I was able to get 3 new old stock mags from CZ USA.

Just ordered a CZ83 in 7.65 from Max Arms in Florida. Didn’t know these were ever made in 7.65 until yesterday.
These are great guns but finding mags can be a challenge.

Well, because I liked the first one I bought so much, and it was very lonely, and I liked the satin nickel 83 pics that y'all posted in this thread so much, that when I saw this one in such good condition at a reasonable price, I decided it needed to come to my house. It needs a little more clean up as there is still some crud in the slide serrations, but I wanted to wait and shoot it tomorrow before I go too far. The grips are a little scratched up and definitely holster wear, but other than that, this gun seems to have almost no use. The barrel looks like it's unfired, but I'm sure it had to have been fired a little bit as it's a surplus import. I'm very happy with both of these 83s.

Just got my CZ83 in 7.65 and it is great. It came with one magazine so I am looking for a few more. The 7.65 magazine has the grooves pressed into the side plates for what probably stabilizes the 32 acp round. Two magazines for the .380 CZ 83 fit, lock the slide back, and feed at least one Azoom snap cap. I will be surprised if they feed a full mag of ball ammo.
Ironically, I tried one of the off brand magazines that have been floating around (the one with “mfg. CZ” stamped on base plate), and it fit perfectly. On my CZ83, .380, it is a very tight fit.
Will let you know what happens at the range.

Reference my post above:

I loaded 15 rounds in this magazine (very difficult). I could not even hand cycle the rounds through my 7.65 CZ83. I may try modifying this mag by bending the feed lips tighter, and adding some type of shims inside the body.

I bought a couple of those magazines from Numrich and I had to cram them into my CZ 83s and then getting them out required a tool to pry them loose. I sent them back for a full refund. The magazine on the left is the original that came with the gun and the one on the right is the "mfg. CZ" stamped magazine from Numrich (gunpartscorp.com).

I have tried using the .380 mags in a 7.65 CZ 83. The magazines fit and the first round should chamber but that’s it. Hope you have better luck at the range.
