Title: Most accurate cz bolt rifle
Post by: skin on February 01, 2023, 10:18:36 AM
What has been your most accurate cz bolt action rifle right out of the box? Mine has been a cz527 varmint in 204 ruger. I sold a remington 700 in 17 remington and bought the cz527 in 204 ruger. After shooting a box of factory ammo, I was amazed! It was so accurate. Started reloading for it, and it still improved. Now,if I get half Inch groups, I'm having a bad day. The rifle is plain stock. Nothing done, not even adjusting the trigger.
 What's yours?

I bought the same rifle back in 2005, my results were the same as yours. It improved every time I took it out until around 150 rounds. A tack driver for sure.
This rifle has well over 2500 rounds thru it and it still shoots as good as it ever has. It also has never seen a brush go down its bore, I have only used foaming bore cleaner on it and it looks like a mirror.

Thats a tough question for me, truth is they are all really accurate. Some of that can probably be partially attributed to the single set trigger. I only use that feature when sighting in a rifle, but it's valuable when it comes to that. I've got a pretty fair range set up, with a target at 50 and about 125 yards.

If I had to pick one and say it was the most accurate, I would probably go with one of my 527s. I'd have to flip a coin to pick which one. My 550 is minute of tennis ball at 125 and my 557, even without the set trigger feature, is about the same.

Six or seven years ago a small number of CZ 527's Varmints chambered in 222 Remington made their way into the states after having been imported into Mexico. I managed to get one of them and this would be the one. I'm guessing my least accurate would be one of the Varmint barreled 527's in 17 Remington and it's well under an inch. If they don't shoot (doesn't matter who made the rifle) or can't be made to shoot they don't stick around.

I am an average shooter.
My 527 in 223 is scoped with a 3x9 scope.
I shot factory Hornady 223 55gr ammo.

Mine was a 550 FS in 6.5x55. Consistently under moa, and on good days 1/2 m9 out to 300 yards.

My 527 in 7.62x39 is the most accurate I have shot.

I have .223 in the safe, but I have not shot it yet.

As a lightweight walking around coyote rifle, I picked up one of the Remington 700 Classic rifles in 223 Remington. This was quite a number of years ago. I wanted something easy to carry that still had some reach to it. Then CZs began coming into the country and I picked up one of the 527 Americans also in 223 as it was even smaller and lighter. I'm now using the CZ 527 Carbine in 223 as a walk around gun. It gives up nothing in the accuracy department. Being a shorter barrel is a stiffer barrel I figure the little stubby Carbines barrel must be as stiff as a bull barreled varmint rifle, well maybe not quite.  kaptnies 1 looks like your Carbine is a keeper.

Yes sir! David I am so fortunate to have it.
Came across it in a tactical style gun shop a few years ago.
It was on consignment.
I offered $400 otd.

The gun does lose accuracy with 62gr.

And it tumbles 75gr (key hole) no picture

That would indicate your Carbine has the 1–12 inch twist instead of the newer 1-9 twist rate. Sixty two grains is about the high limit give or take with the 1-12 twist. I'm not one for heavy weight .224 bullets and prefer the 1-12 twist rate rifles. My only CZ with a faster twist is a Varmint model in 223 with the 1-9 twist rate. I bought it while another CZ Varmint in 223 was off being rebarreled with a 1-12 twist barrel.

My best rifle is a Mauser made by CZ on 1942, in a rifle by Kimber with a Timney trigger and stainless, fluted barrel. 257 Roberts and it has never missed! That counts, right?

That was the second coming of Kimber, after the Oregon model 82 and 84's and before Yonkers N.Y. 45 Autos. Nice rifle.

Mine was a CZ 550FS in 6.5x55.  That rifle (and my brother's identical 550) both shot 1/2 moa all day long out to 200yd w/140 gr.  loads. (200 yd. was as long a range as we had easy access to).

Cheers

You know, the simple truth is that pretty much all of the CZ bolt guns I have owned, were far more accurate than American production rifles. I found myself surprised...as in "ok it wasn't me" when I finally got around to trying CZ and discovered that they were so accurate. Some might point out that the single set trigger function was a factor- and I wont deny that. But still, as my 557 proves, even without the SST CZ rifles shoot rings around a lot of more common domestic offerings. THAT is what endeared me of cz rifles. Quality, performance, accuracy.
I have been through several LE sniper schools, and the accuracy of the rifles used (almost all were Rem 700s) was no better than the CZ rifles I use today.
At one point, I owned a Polish Mauser rifle that was set up in scout rifle configuration in .308. My first shooting session after sighting in was two one-hole groups at 100 yards. But that was a specialty rifle, and I am confident that those two groups were as much luck as effort. Yes, I saved the targets for a time for bragging rights...I am confident that my CZs are as capable.
Build it right, the old way. Provide something for a decent price that outshines other offerings. That's what brought me to CZ bolt guns.

They have now stopped making the models that did all that. Like fast food chains famous for roast beef sandwiches trying to expand sales by offering fish sandwiches. But, I have my older CZs, and am always on the lookout for "new" (to me) other purchases of the older models.

All of my CZ rifles have single stage triggers. The 452's and 455 came like this and the CZ 527's have had their set triggers adjusted to single stage. You won't see set triggers on many bench rest rifles. The set trigger while it can be set very light sets up vibrations and movement before the firing pin begins to fall. A set trigger needs something to strike the fly and knock the trigger off the sear when the triggers pressed. All that means movement and vibration, trivial as it may be. I would be inclined to think that the quality of the barrel finish before getting hammer forged would be a greater contributor to accuracy.

I don't know, fact of the matter is that all my CZ rifle's out-shoot me. I like the single set for sighting in, but that's all I use it for. When I picked up my 270, someone had set the SST off, so I had to re-set that function.
At best I consider myself a decent shot, by no means a really good one. So the differences people sometimes talk about would be lost in my hands. But I get by.

The only CZ rifle I own is a 750 S1M1, it is designed for police and military purpose.
I also owned a WINCHESTER 70 STEALTH II which shoots even better than the CZ 750.
Both of them are 26.0'' heavy barrels twist 1:10'' (.308 Win.).
