Title: snap caps for 7mm Rem Mag?
Post by: cyotz on March 11, 2004, 05:18:10 PM
Anyone know where to find them? I've checked Cabela's, Bass Pro Shop and Dicks Sports as well as online and have come up empty.

Thanks,
Chris

Brownells , Montezuma, Iowa. A gunsmith supply store. The catalog is a near "must have" for any gun loony worth their salt.

It is unprobable that you find such, most snap-caps cartridges are made for combination shotgun or drillings which have a fine firing-pin(such as the lead in a lead pencil) which upon hitting receiver will gradualy crystalise and break. Another no-no is dry firing a rim-fired weapon since this will leave indentations in the firing chamber and cause: bad headspace, mis-fires, and what not.

As in the case of a bolt action rifle the firing-pin is massive enough that it will never break for this type of reason, thus you can dry-fire at will. :)  Since the 7mm Rem. Mag. is seldom seen in combo-shotguns & drilling, then I'm assuming that you have a bolt-action rifle.

Yes, it is a bolt action 550 Medium.

I thought I had seen a message or two from people recommending snap caps.

Thanks for the input.

Pachmayr make 'A-Zoom' snap caps in a comprehensive list of calibres - I have 9 sets ranging from .22 Hornet to .458 Win Mag which I use in my CZ550 .458 Lott.

They should be available from any good gun store as they are part of the Lyman range of products.
