I have a carry permit but rarely carry because I often go to the local Air Force Base for a variety of reason (Retired access). For years the military did not allow personnel to have a weapon on base unless on duty and the duty required it (or direct transit from the gate to the armory where folks who lived on base had to store their personnel weapons). Surprisingly,I just learned today that carry permit holders can now take a weapon on base (at my local base anyways) IF it's secured in a lockable compartment in your car.
Unfortunately my car's glove box does not lock so I'm in search of a cost effective lock box for my car. I won't need quick access to my weapon (only for those times I go on base) but I would like something I can access from the driver seat (so I don't have to leave the car to transfer my handgun from my holster to the box). The gun would either be a CZ PCR w/ optics or a P365 w/optics so a box on the small side would be fine. There's no room under the front seats.
Thanks!

Prior to the LockerDown Console Vault, I used a Hornady pistol safe

I'm still using a Hornady product for my car: https://www.hornady.com/security/lock-boxes/alpha-elite-lock-box#!/ (https://www.hornady.com/security/lock-boxes/alpha-elite-lock-box#!/)

Since the best place is in your locked car trunk, I'd think that any steel box that can be bolted down will do, as long as it has a key lock...
e.g. a new or used "cash box". Look Here (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pen-Gear-10-Inch-Metal-Cash-Box-with-Cash-Tray-and-Key-Lock-Black-YFC-25/190051822?athbdg=L1102)

The trunk itself is a "locked compartment"

I prefer the manual pushbutton simplex Fort Knox steel safes. I was going to buy a rifle back from a friend and he almost lost the sale because the battery on his safe died.

I have one I’ve these hidden in all of my cars.
Less than $20. Slip the cable around something sturdy and lock the lid.

I like the console safes but not the price tags.

I agree with the post on the simplex Fort KNox style lock box. I have one and it is great. I use it for travel and it has owrked perfect over many years.

I know it's expensive but check out the Headrest safe a friend has one and likes it. It replaces your cars passenger side head rest and locks securely into the seat back.
