Title: Questions about my new CZ 700
Post by: Infectedfrog on July 17, 2003, 10:25:40 PM
Hey all,
I'm new to CZ and I have a few questions about a CZ 700 (.308 cal) that I recently purchased. It is a CZ 700 "Sport"  (says CZ-USA) although none of the paper work says "Sport". All paper work says 700 and the manual that came with it is for the 550's. It has the same bolt as the CZ700 and a like barrel. American Stock with mags release on either side and a blot release on the left. I called CZ-USA about it and was told that it was a limited civilian model 700 that CZ put out. Basically a one time thing. They have nothing else on it. No paper, no manuals nothing. Only thing they did have was 7 dusty magazines. They are 3 round mags and I bought 3, rifle only came with 1. They didn't even know how many were made or how many made it here to the USA. The dealer I bought it from says that they only shipped 108 to the USA. Its actually a really nice rifle and shoots well. Only have it sighted in at 100 yards for now though. What I'm wondering is how many were actually made and if anyone has one or has ever seen one. I'm guessing that it was made between 01-02. I forgot to ask CZ-USA that and can find nothing on the web about it, only the Sniper Rifle. Here are a few pictures of the rifle. Let me know what you all know. Thanks

Looking at the Rifle I see an icon I can't really make out and the numbers 98 on the opposite side of the barrel from the CZ logo and model. (The Right side). Maybe it was made in 1998?

You're correct in that CZ 700 Sport was a limited run of rifles using the action from the CZ 700 Sniper rifle.  For more info see the following thread under Rifle FAQ's from the main forum page.   Seems only 44 of these were imported to the states!

Thanks for posting the pics.  I've found a few 700 "Sport" models on price lists and developed some interest in them, but have never seen one in person.  Your photos are the next best thing.  I had heard the same thing you did about the limited number of them being imported.  I believe the 700 was discontinued and replaced by the 750 which uses the 550 action.

It seems that the rifle was indeed made in 1998. The "Icon" Is actually a Crowned "Leo" over top of the letter "N". Seems that its the "Nitro" proof Stamp and the 98 is the year it was tested and approved. As far as only 44 if these rifles being imported into the USA I am receiving conflicting stories. CZ-USA say around 200 or so and the dealer that sold it to me says around 108. I have Serial number 58. CZ-USA said that they were made for export to Germany but that RSR liked them and decided to import a few. Lucky me, I really like the rifle. The scope mount holes on the receiver are tapped for metric screws though and the dealer only had a few beat up ones that I could have. One with bent head. I've been looking that last few days for the right size metric screws but not having much luck. I also am having a local smithy properly float the barrel. Seems that after a few quick rounds my grouping would slip. The barrel is pretty much riding the stock the whole way. After shooting at the range for a while it heats up and throws my shot off. I'm hoping that floating it a bit will clear that up. I guess I'll see this weekend. I can knock the hell out of a cast iron target at 500 meters though. WOOHOO....

Thanks for the info guys..

I don't think that he does but I'll swing by and ask. Were located in Sierra Vista AZ but I here that theres a great little place up near flagstaff that has just about anything you want. I'll get the names and numbers for both dealers for you. RSR may have some left or know where they are as well. You can also get a list of CZ dealers from the CZ-USA website. www.cz-usa.com

You do not have a 700 Sport. You have a 700 Standard. A 700 Sport looks like a CISM or Palma rifle. CZ has taken down their 700 Sport webpage.

Marty at CZ-USA and Badger Ordnance gave me the 40-something number (can't remember it right now). I posted it on this board previously. 700 Sport rifles were not imported to the US.

If you look back through older posts you'll probably find pics of my custom US Optics scope rail and my 700 Standard. My friend/dealer's rifle will shoot 1-clean-hole groups at ~100yards. I only have 20 rounds through my rifle, so it's still breaking in.
