I was having a "gun" conversation with a nephew of mine and he forwarded me a Forgotten Weapons link about the Laugo Alien in 9 mm. It's another Czech-made gun that is radically different. In the video, it was mentioned that the inventor of this mechanism had worked with CZUB on the Scorpion EVO and then later left to develop the Alien.
It is rather a radical design: - a very, very low bore axis (think the Chiappa Rhino low!)
- magazines are designed to accept extensions to 17 rounds
- the barrel is "fixed" in place so no tilting
- the slide is 2-piece (think top insert) so that optics and front sight stay fixed
- there are TWO (2) inserts: iron sights & optics
- the trigger mechanism "looks" like striker-fired, but the first video below describes it as an internal hammer
- it uses "reverse" gas porting inside an "upper" assembly portion of the barrel
- and you won't believe the sear!
The Laugo website doesn't list any US dealers, but there a more than a few of these being offered at present on Gunbroker.com and the asking prices put it up there with the FKBRNO Field Pistol.

I regularly shoot with a guy who has one and loves it. He uses it in IDPA but it is considered an Open gun in USPSA because the RDS isn't slide mounted. That had to hurt sales so they came out with a Retro kit so the RDS is slide mounted. Seems like a step backwards but that's what they had to do to meet IPSC rules.
I am still hoping some major manufacturer licenses the design and gets some mass production going to bring the price down.

It’s a machine that makes ordinary plinkers like me into near-machines for casual shooting. Had a chance to shoot one last Fall that belongs to a friend in the US. That same friend also brought along a new Tisa PX-9 Duty that was picked up for about 5% of the cost of the Alien that was still a hoot to shoot afterwards.

Is this an open division gun in USPSA or could you shoot this in the new limited optics division? The optic is technically not mounted to the slide.

good question. I'm betting it is set as an Open gun. The rules state it has to be slide mounted. I have a nice SP-01 with a frame mount and was kinda bummed I cant shoot it in the new limited optics. It does sound like a step backward.
I think the only things I've heard as negs on the Alien are price and heat in a shootdown stage. Besides those it looks awesome.
