Title: grip screws
Post by: wormraper on March 22, 2023, 03:04:58 AM
is there any issues using stock grip screws with cool hand/guuun/lok grips??? back 5 or 6 years ago when I got my grips none of the makers came with screws so I just re-used the ones that came with the rubber grips (with the #60 O-ring underneath added) with my coolhand and guun ones. I was going to order a new set of grips for an ODG P-01 I just grabbed and noticed that they all come with torx screws with the grips nowadays.

question is, is there a reason for the grip screws? or can I just use my phillips head OEM screws from the rubber grips like I did with my previous Cool hand and Guun grips. I'm probably over thinking it, but my brain was wondering if the OEM screws are longer than needed for thinner g10 grips and would interfere with something if screwed in to thinner grips, or if the torx screws that LOK or cool hand provide are simply low profile so the heads sink below the grip holes (pure aesthetics then)...

I got some cool hand wood grips for my P01 omega and it came with some gold colored screws.  The grips were thinner than my stock grips.  The gold screws didn't seem to want to go in the holes.  It seemed like they were a different thread pitch or maybe the gold plating was making them hard to start.  I didn't want the gold screws anyway on my gun.  I used the stock screws and didn't put anything under them. They tightened down with the dead about flush with the grip.  I even put a little dab of anti -seize on the screw so taking them out and in is easy.  They have never became loose at all.  Just don't over tighten them.  I check them every time I clean the gun.  The grips are nice looking and laminated wood but kind of dull looking.  I took some 0000 steel wool and smoothed them and put about 4 coats of minwax stain on them using the steel wool between coats.  That made the smooth part of the grip nicer looking.  The lamination make it look like wood grain.  Nice looking grips for $29.
